Re-doing etching on the scales?

Is there any easy way to re-do etching on scales?

For example a common inexpensive straight razor is the Union Cutlery "Spike" where "Spike" is etched in the celluloid scales. On mine it's the same color as the scales or rather it's just etched and there is no paint. I'm not sure how it looked originally but what would be involved to color in that etching to make "Spike" stand out?

Any ideas?

Celluloid scales are harder to do since the waterproof paint like nail polish might flash the plastic, as can the solvent used to clean off excess.

Maybe if you are really careful?

How about gold enamel paint cleaned up with paint thinner? Try applying a little paint thinner in a less visible area (e.g., between the scales) to see if the plastic is affected first.

Edit: I've never tried it, so I'm just thinking out loud here. Good luck!

I’m stumped
Just a suggestion as I have not done it myself.
How about rubbing a candle on the scale, but not in the etching. The wax will make the area applied easy to clean when the paint dries.
