razor replate

Several members have asked me about the replated razors that were done recently. In the interest of providing information about this business, I thought to give the name and address of the plater under the vendor section. This is a professional plating service, not a do it yourself home kit type of thing. They provide plating and restoration services for many types of antique and restoration collectors from all over the country. They have experience in restoring the razors and are one of the few professional businesses that welcome the work. Their workmanship is excellent and the prices are fair, they will ship through the mail. My experience has been with both nickel and gold plated razors and the work is excellent, it's great to see these pieces glow like new again, like a new paint job done right. They also provide clear lacquer coating of gold plated pieces, if requested, like the Gillette plant did originally to provide wear protection. Reliable Electroplating Inc. Well, I tried to get answers out to everyone with the best info that I have. In short, the prices so far have been in the range of $25 for the gold razors and $20 for the nickel with no minimum number. I have gotten my pieces back in about a week, I am close enough to drive down and get them so you may have to allow a couple of extra days for shipping. The mechanisms are not affected by the plating because the pushrod tolerances are pretty wide, the solution drains out when they come out of the tank and only the plating remains which is not thick enough to clog anything up. For gold I would recommend having them sprayed with lacquer to provide extra wear resistance. So far I have had three or four nickel superspeeds, four gold aristocrats, one NEW gold, and one 1934 barberpole Aristocrat done and they have all come out looking like new. Dale says not to polish them with a tooth brush because the bristles can cause scratches, use a cotton or felt instead, regards, bc

Thanks for this info. I have a SS that is showing brass. I polished it up very nicely, but it's 2-toned.

$20 is not bad. :)

Now the decision is...chome or gold. I do have brass fixtures in my "shave den" bathroom...hmmmm...
