Razor from Titanic

Not sure if this has already been posted.

Here's a photo of a razor that was found at the Titanic wreck. It appears to be a double ring razor from (maybe) 1905. This was on exhibition at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. They asked for people not to take any photos, but I had too for this one.

Is it bad that this is the first time that the word "tragedy" came to my mind when thinking about the Titanic? Seeing such a nice razor all rusted up because of the events of that fateful day......:crying:

Brush seems fine though:thumbup:

I too would love to know the serial number, and it would make an interesting notiation at the historical display.

However I'm guessing that being under seawater for almost 100 years would leave this three-piece razor permanently fused together, and even if it could be disassembled the serial # would not be ledgible.

krona i have to agree she was a beautiful ship and a worthy razor to boot, however i think you are right the razor probably went through a lot sinking to the bottom of the deep blue.
make me shudder to think about that dread full night.

but on a note was at the imperial war museum in London there were so many razor there as well.

Very cool!

Do we know that these are items that were recovered from the actual underwater debris field, or are these items that were recovered from the sea -- say found in a floating trunk or suitcase -- at the time the ship sunk? There's an awful lot of other stuff there, like the shaving brush, strop, and paper razor blade wrapper, that seems in unbelievably good condition if it were submerged for any length of time. But what do I know...?

Wow! That is really cool. How the heck did the blade and wrapper last so well?! I've seen razors and blades that have been just as, if not more, damaged just from storage.

I think I saw the same exhibition in Singapore in Feb or Mar this year. As I understood it, all items has been salvaged from the bottom of the sea.

A recent National Geographic had a feature about the Titanic. It's easy to find at your library as it is the cover story. Included are photos and exhibition of artifacts. Agree, it's neat to see as a time capsule, but feel the ship should have been left in peace.
Similarly, there's a guy on Ebay that sells "battlefield relic" razors. Some of them are really interesting - obscure slants, European Gillettes - but I'm of the belief that it is essentially grave robbing.
