Rank your favourite shaving sticks

Marco

B&B's Man in Italy
Shaving sticks are unquestionably powerful shaving soaps. They are easy to use (here I suggest Joel's excellent tutorial), economical to buy, practical to carry and very effective to shave with. What are your favourite sticks and how do you rank them? Here are mine:

1. La Toja
2. Valobra
3. Lea
4. Speick
5. Palmolive

Thank you, Gentlemen! :001_smile

I have only tried four but my preference is as follows:

1) Arko
2) Speick
3) Palmolive
4) Erasmic (non-tallow stick - pure garbage)

I'm pretty new to sticks but based on fine recommendations on B&B I am currently using and enjoying La Toja and Palmolive. Both perform very well although the scents are totally different. Love them both! The La Toja transports me to some unseen seaside resort!

All of the ones below are ranked #1 in my shave den... Haven't found anything other than a #1 stick...

Except for La Toja I rarely use a stick anymore. If I traveled, they would probably get more use but at home I prefer a bowl.

Sticks still in use:
#1 - La Toja (The only soap where I like the stick better than the bowl)
#2 - Tabac (kept in stick form only because I already have several bowls of it)

Sticks no longer used:
Harris Almond (transferred to a bowl last weekend)
Arko
2 QED sticks
BEA

Here's what I tend to favor...

1. Wilkinson
2. Palmolive
3. Arko
4. Valobra
5. Tabac

...and then in no particular order: Boots, Harris, La Toja, Mennen, Bea, Lea, others that I don't recall --they're in a drawer somewhere.

I also will 'palm' a soap puck, dip to wet, then scuff the puck over the face as though it is a large shave stick. This works very well and I recommend you try this.

About the only stick that I don't care for is the Erasmic. It is truly a subpar product.

1. IM
2. Speik
3. Wilk

I haven't used tabac stick (I have plenty of it in puck form). Arko, Palmolive, and valobra were all subpar for me. La Toja gave me a rash (possibly something else was to blame, but soap was the immediate suspect and I didn't want to risk it).

Turtle, what's the white stick on the front right (plain foil wrapper)?

Not Turtle, but it is Valobra.

Here are mine:

3) Arko

La Toja, Speick, and Wilkinson Sword are nice, but I don't dig the scent. Tabac stick is good, but I prefer the bowl.
