Raise the Macallan Tasting tour

I'm on Macallan's email list, and a couple weeks ago I got an email about a series of free tasting events here in Chicago. It looked legit, so me and a couple of friends decided to sign up for one of the tastings in mid October.

I know this is being held across the country so I was wondering if anyone has been to one of these? It's obviously a marketing promotion, but hopefully I'll have a chance to sample some their more pricey whisky.

Below is the link if anyone wants to check it out. Also here's a review of one of the events in Austin.

I'd have to go to Atlanta. Seems there are few whisky tastings in Nashville, mostly Tennessee whiskey, not scotch.

I went ahead and registered for one of the LA events with a work buddy. Interested to see if they actually have you taste very much, or just give you a bunch of promotional/marketing stuff

I have been to the event in SF for the last three years. It is legit, but there is also heavy advertising. A couple of videos, a distiller from MacCallen that has gobs of knowledge to share. You do taste some of the higher end stuff, but more of the mid to low range and some of the non-vintage vatted malts that a lot of distillers are going to to try to keep up with demand. If you get a chance, do it.

Hey all,

Sorry I didn't post my review of the Macallan's tasting tour last weekend (really busy). Anyway I wanted to give my thoughts on the event if anyone is curious about signing up for it.

We headed out to the event and got there about 10 minutes early. There was already a line, so we waited outside the venue. As we were waiting a person came up to us and scanned the QR code we had gotten in our emails after we signed up.

We were let into the reception area where we got a ticket for a dram of the Macallans 10 year and some hors d'oeuvres . I was really surprised that the crowd was pretty young and pretty well dressed. They had some some cool displays of Macallan's history and a pretty neat case filled with Macallan's most expensive Scotches (I mean really expensive stuff).

After about a half hour we were let into the banquet room and were seated. On our table was an Ipad showing some facts about the Macallans distilling process and some trivia questions. As the show started there were two big screens playing an intro video about Macallans and after that, the MC introduced himself and started talking about his history with the distiller and the history of Scotch making. As he was talking we got to sample everything from their 10 year to the 18 year Scotch. They were served in a style similiar to a wine flight but from the yongest to the oldest. They were pretty decent sized samples yet not huge.

Anyway the whole presentation was over in just a little over an hour and I would say for a free event it was pretty decent. So if anybody has one in their area, I would say do sign up for it. It's a great way to kill an hour and taste some really great Scotch.

Thanks for the detailed writeup! It sounds like they did it right. The one time I went to a whiskey distillery, we only got to try the cheap stuff!
