When I first started, I bought a bunch of gillettes that I found at antique stores and ebay etc. Well, now I don't have any modern DEs. I just placed my order for the Muhle R41. I had previously been looking at the Merkur 34C, but it seems to be sold out everywhere. I also decided to I'd like a slant, but the 37c also seems to be out of stock. So I'm looking at an EJ 89 f and a Merkur 39C. Also looking at the Progress. Any thoughts on these? I feel this would round out my "modern" DE repertoire.

They are all great razors, Ej89 is very smooth amd works great with a Feather Blade. Merkur Slant works great with a Polisilver, Feather, and Astra SP . The progress is nice but i would rather go with the Mergress as the adjustment dial is Moidfied and made of Metal on the Mergress, Also ads a good weight to the razor, as well takes away the alignment issues the plastic Progress has. You can purchase the Mergress at @ Leesrazors.com Lee is usally out of stock on them, but you can get on a Mailing list and when he is in stock you will be notified, but make sure you amswer that Email Fast as sometimes they go in minutes.
The 39C and Progress are both good. My current first choice is the 37C followed by the Progress. The adjustable exposure on the Progress is a facet that can be useful depending on how your skin feels in different areas. The lining up of the marks on the Progress is a distraction but what ever floats your boat. The main thing is to the enjoy your shave.

the progress is an amazing razor, one of my favs to this day!
+1. Just had the Mergress conversion done. Fantastic razor. Toss up between the Progress and Fatboy if I had to choose my favorite.
