What's new

RAD is telling me that I need a big French frame back.

Any frame back users ?

I think they are cool looking but how do they shave for you ?
The reason I ask is because I don't want to spend the kind of money a nice one cost only to find that I may not like the blade...say as compared to a Full hollow or a wedge.
TIA

Frame-backs are thin like a hollow but very stiff. None of mine have any flex so they shave a bit more like a 1/4 grind or wedge. Usually take a great edge. Along with the Swiss most razor makers produced frame-backs. I have a few Sheffields that are as good as my Swiss blades.

The bottom one looks like the type blade that I have an itch for - with the French point. Is the top one a French point or barber's notch ? I'm guessing, prob French but the camera angle makes it look kind of like a notch ?
Dang man, I better go back to Safety Razors where the RAD is cheap..I have an Escher and a French point frame back in my mental shopping cart.....trying my darnedest to stay out of check out.

If you find one you like, get. Otherwise you spend the rest of your life looking for another one and you will never find it ;)

Heed the advice of the wise. Five years after not bidding on the most unique Radice bulldog (pipe) that I had ever seen I am still kicking myself and looking for another without success. Items that are not common (or presently mass produced) are unlikely to turn up again. At worst, you decide it is not for you, take a $10 loss and sell it.

I was surely hoping you guys would talk me out of it... I have one in mind and will PM a few of you about the seller/razor and try to get an unbiased opinion....of course you might happen to be the seller ? But that's OK,too.

Then again, I may have to have a throw down trade in B/S/T for a first time user grade Tousuke Gold Kinmoji kamisori with the scaloped line fused metals- which I hear is supposed to be a sign of higher quality ? Anyway, it dang sure wasn't cheap, price wise. I can't read Kinmoji but I am sure that some of you can.

Man. I am really liking you cut throats..a great bunch, you are.

I just had a great shave with a Case 5/8 that I got recently. Nothing fancy but a great little shaver, IMO.
I had to hone it with my Coti and some 12,000 grit film but it was nice. Dang it, if I didn't put a teeny tiny itsy bitsy chip near the end of its edge near its point w/ a dang ole Dremel slip while buffing it...sigh..A little 125 wet dry will fix it but....

Paco664, I will definitely be PMing you, You are a gentleman bar none.

Thank you all, I am really glad to be such a humble go to straight shaver in such a saintly bunch ( or is that Motley) just fooling about there. You are a great bunch and I thank you each and every one.
