Quinine therapy

Summer is here and the mosquitos are out in droves. Fear of marlaria has driven me to begin my annual quinine therapy.

Gin & Tonic

2 oz Tanquaray Rangpur
4 oz Q Tonic

Funny thing you should mention G&T. That's exactly what I plan to have this evening. I already have my supplies.

Edit: No mosquitos, though.

Very responsible of you, it would be foolish to risk being the beginning of a malaria outbreak... convincing my wife that I should follow the same routine might be a bit challenge though...

Malaria is one of the world's top killers, so you can never take enough precautions. A large G&T is only sensible, and I think I may have to have one having reminded myself of the seriousness of malaria.

Definitely time to get our quinine. However, I find I prefer to cut my tonic with a bit more gin. About a 50/50 ratio usually. Lots of ice and a big wedge of lime squeezed hard to get plenty of juice as well.

Can any of you fellas offer up a suggestion for a decent tonic water without or very little quinine added to it? I have had a few of the popular ones that you get at your local grocer, but they have all been too bitter due to the quinine for my taste. I am a gin drinker so a G&T is a drink I want to come to enjoy, but I need a way to get around the bitterness.

.....my thoughts as well, although I really appreciate the levity of the post,if you do travel into malaria zones be aware quinine has zero effect on todays mosquitoes, your best bet is to really research how to avoid it...

You're kidding, right? There is no tonic water without quinine. Quinine is the point of tonic water. Without quinine, it's not tonic water.

Seriously, though, I find Canada Dry tonic water to be sweeter than any other brand I have tried.

I like Q tonic but it is very pricey.
The "Mixer" brand Walmart carries is not very bitter and only a buck.
