Drinking while you hone will be OK but starting with 2/3 a bottle of wine already drunk is another story.

Around here I believe it's always implied. Posting it was a mere formality. When I drink, I tend to become stronger, faster, better spoken, and more coordinated. I'd assume that would carry over to honing.

I'm surprised so many folks went with the "It's your razor" option... well, actually, it IS my razor but even in semi-lightheaded mood, I had no intention of honing last night, but the thought was dancing on my shoulder like the tiny devil.

I'll be playing with it today.

I will often have a beer at the honing table since I usually hone on Saturdays while the wife is at work. As long as I'm not finishing that beer in a half hour or less per bottle, I'm good. Since honing takes my concentration, it usually takes me an hour to finish a bottle. Relaxed enough to concentrate, but not so much that I'm slicing myself with the thumb test....
