Questions about traveling with my kit

I dot travel much at all, but will be for a few days next week.

I don't have any travel oriented gear, so what is the best way to travel with a brush?

I'm thinking I could just dry it as best I can in the hotel then wrap it in a dry wash cloth and travel on. Then upon arriving unpack and let it dry over night???

In terms of my razor I was thinking i could also wrap it in a wash cloth.

I know they make travel "holsters" for razors and travel brushes, but I don't want any of that. I just want a nice shave while im on the road.

I just cant go back to multi blade razors and cream in a can... even for a few days LOL.

Any suggestions for travel?

Go by your local pharmacy, and they'll give you a large medicine bottle. Just punch or drill some holes in the top, and you've got a perfect travel container for your brush. The rest is up to you.

If you'll be flying, don't forget that you can't carry on DE blades...you'll need to check those in your luggage. I've got a brush holder that works nicely, but what Redstickjohn mentioned is a great idea as well.

An empty toilet paper roll and 2 rubber bands make an excellent brush holder.
Also, don't obsess over drying it too much. A brush can stay wet for a few days without falling apart, you just don't want to make a regular practice of it.

Great idea. I had to try it out.

I wrapped blue painter's tape around the toilet paper roll - makes it so classy - lol.

Actually just strengthens it a bit and wraps over the base to close it off.

Works great with my Franks Finest and I can just bin the roll when I'm finished.

Added attraction of a supply of replacement parts at my place on "regular" basis.

Franks Finest also do a travel brush. I travel quite a bit and am waiting on delivery of one so can't report at the moment as to its usability. I also ordered the Merkur travel razor which I received yesterday. I tried it this morning and am pleased with the result. It will take a bit of practice to get used to the short handle. I've also got sample containers of ToBS cream to add a little variety when on the road. I'm just hoping my favourite hotels sell razor blades....

West Coast has a plastic brush tube for $5 if you're a high roller. If you make one you don't have to wait. I'm guessing a synthetic might be better for travel. I have a H.I.S. on order - many great reviews here. Most hotels have a hair drier. Is there any problem with giving the brush a quick dry before storing it?

HIS is kind of big to travel... I pack a small Omega Syntex brush. Synthetics don't mind living a little wet. Remember- no blades in carry-on luggage if you fly.
Cheers!

Your idea about wrapping your tools in dry washcloths is perfectly fine; there's no need to spend lots of money, or even much money, on travel gear. I myself use a plastic travel soap container for my (synthetic) brush and another soap container for my disassembled razor, whose parts I wrap in a bit of paper towel or toilet paper. +1 on the toilet paper roll and the pill bottle as other cheap alternatives for your brush, which indeed doesn't have to be super dry all the time.

Thanks... BTW, I did just wrap my razor in a wash cloth. It worked great. So even on the road I enjoyed a nice "traditional" shave. :)

I disassemble my razor and carry it in an empty Altoids tin with the razor parts separated by tissue or paper towel. That also guards against the blade damaging something in your suitcase or toiletries bag. Altoids are also available in a mini tin, which I use for extra blades if the trip will last more than three days or so.

If you are in a hotel, just use the hair dryer to dry the brush. Move it back and forth rapidly and/or use the cool setting to help dry out the brush...puts a nice bloom on the brush as well.

Take a pack of blades that have the slot underneath and use a new blade when you arrive and dispose of it underneath when you leave...

Great idea! Thanks. Altoids tins are great for everything. I made a headphone amplifier out of one for my iPhone.

The bag for my dopp kit has some sectioned off areas which is where I place my razors. (Yes, I do travel with two razors. A Gillette TTO NDC years and a 1975 Gillette Travel razor.) As far as my brush goes I brace it against my face wash and bar soap and finish the box-in with my bottle of witch hazel. So, I really don't think you need any kind of special equipment to travel with.
