What's new

question regarding pinning

OK I got this sextoblade razor .. and the wedge of it fell apart mostly .. now only thing left is the pin and some of the wedge core surrounding the pin (which if touch will crumble even more.

So I was thinking of doing a new wedge and trying to repin it .. I saw the guide and all seem peachy :001_smile but first thing is I don't know any hobbyist shop in my town (only one I know is for potteries supplies and I doubt there is some other - this is the capital of my country hehe it sucks for stuff like this) so this lead to question numero uno:

1. is there some online place that actually sells this .. washers and rods? I was thinking of trying a jewelry store (if I manage to find some artisan one that actually works with jewelry instead just reselling) .. I think this is too fine size for the general bolt&nuts type of store?

2. What do I make the wedge out of? acrylic would be easiest to work with? I have a rotary tool at disposal .. wood? (or that is bad idea for water?). something else?

3. color? the weck has lined cream yellow scales .. what would compliment it best? hmm red? or something more neutral (open to suggestions bonus if you have a picture of cream/yellow scales with some interesting wedge in).

The sextoblade is is great shape otherwise .. so I would like to do it proper honors with a new wedge :tongue_smany help appreciated

Shoot me a PM, I gots what you needs!

Yes, use acrylic for the wedge, its not a wedge though, it is straight and a piece of clear acrylic is what one of my cream scaled ones has, the other is black.

Nice blade! I'm sure firewalker will hook you up. I get my stuff ie, nickel silver 1/16th rods off ebay, been happy with it.
I second the black color choice.

hmm i'll try black I think I have some left off from when I was expanding my EJ brush holder to hold two razors as well .. thickness should be about right.

@RzrDoc I have missed that part .. I can't use paypall .. so that why I asked about store (that hopefully does card transactions) hehe

and yeah I notice its straight .. I guess I didn't realized its really a wedge in shape in a straight razor .. just thought its called that coz the placement

Good on you firewalker.
Microfasteners has the washers and they accept overseas cards. They took my order from here with an irish card
As for pins maybe a hardware shop might have some thin enough brass nails that you could cut down to size and peen.

Microfastener has washers (as well as small screws if you like to use them instead of pins). I've ordered oversees from them as well. 1/16" brass rod should be easily available from any hobby shop (or places like eBay).

If I was only mounting the wedge, I could be tempted to try just glueing it. Technically that should work. I'd probably hate the style though.

Still have not gotten the acrylic pieces .. so while bored today I find a small pebble at home that catch my ete .. and this is what come out of it

Will make one or two more from the acrilic and decide then what will go on the scales ;)
