What's new

Question on my new 1965 Gillette Slim

The TTO open knob is really tight compared to my Super Speeds. That quarter turn is tight to open and close, the doors open perfectly and even and it feels really solid its just tighter than my Super Speeds is this normal, the razor looks brand new.

Are we talking the bottom of the razor or the top with the doors open? Plus isn't most baby oil mineral oil?

Open the silo doors and where you would place the blade there is an opening down into the handle. I call this the throat. Mineral oil in the throat. And then work the TTO knob. I had a Super-84 with the same problem and this was my fix. If it doesn't work, try hot water soaks; a bunch of them.

Great thanks I will give it a go when I get home. I appreciate the time you took and the good advice.

Similar to Glenn's recommendation, I would do the hot water soaks (w/ a small amount of dish soap) first. It could be just some crusted soap scum causing these issues. Hopefully the spine and twist mechanism is cleaner after the soak(s) - then apply some mineral oil using Glenn's instructions.

Thanks I will give it a go all we have is Ajax dish washing soap so I will give it a go. The funny part is its only stiff on the last quarter turn and the rest of the time it feels just like my SS.

The last quarter turn locks everything in place, my two slims, my fat boy & my black beauty all do the same thing !

First thanks all for taking the time to respond all to often on forums people forget me included to say thank you. Well after 4 super hot soaks the last quarter turn now feels just like my super speeds, just enough resistance to lock everything down yet not super stiff. I was having a hard time describing my problem but you guys nailed it!
