My Gillette Slim Adjustable Stuck

Hello, I have a Gillette Slim Adjustable. And I am not able to do last quarter turn now with it. Just after closing the gates, it gets too tight and not able to do last quarter turn. How can I solve this problem? Thank you for your interest.

I'm no expert and certainly not a razor mechanic. The first thing I'd do is give it a good long soak in a hot (not boiling) dishsoap water mix. Take it out now and then and open/close the top, rotate the adjustment. Then put it back in the solution at a different setting. That can't hurt, hopefully it would help. Good luck!

Thank you so much.

+1! Yep, that’s certainly how I would start!

If that didn’t work after a few tries, then I might try some penetrating oil.

I run mine through a cheap "jewelry cleaning" sonicator bath. Hot water, several 180 sec runs.

What has happened is that soap scum has collected in the mecanism and is making it very difficult to compress the spring. Hot water and a sonicator will shake that loose.

Once you get it loose put a drop or so of mineral oil down the handle from the top occasionally, this will prevent the problem from happening again.

Let us know how that works out.

Be aware that the amount of the final turn will vary depending on which of the 1 to 9 adjustment settings has been selected. Setting 9 has a much greater final turn than setting 1.

Dishsoap water mix didn't work but cheap machine oil solved the problem. I have been already using machine oil with my Slim but I was using only very little. This time I have used plenty amount of oil and my Slim is working like a charm now. Thank you for your interest gentlemans.

I'm reluctant to use much oil, don't want it in my skin.

Have used a few times baby oil a drop or two.

Most of the times the dish detergent with warm water.....repeated several times over 1-2days seems to work.

And the most dramatic thing ever.....I put a Gillette TTO (that was crunchy and did not open all the way) in one of those jewler ultrasonics (after a 2d water/soap) soak....and what came out of it was really revolting.....

I sought of kind of agree and disagree with the video posted?

Just so happens yet another slim fell apart in my hands, [some lovely person bent the guard for more exposure and fouled the door closure up]
So, an exploded view .....

the tto nob [bottom right] houses the spring, yeah it may get full of putz? but my bet is on the little black number that is directly above it that screws into the tto nob, this and not much putz will give you grief. By the sounds of "copious" oiling solved the problem, it just needed enough to reach the right spot?

if you put the oil in the bottom and just let is stand on the head....you will probably need less (done that) but mineral oil..

Let's revive this thread a little:letterk1:

So I got the very same problem with Gillette black beauty from 1980 — no turn at all. I soaked it for 20 mins... no results, maybe it turned for about a millimeter. I used Ballistol — everything became even worse.

Then one gent @md1234 recommended me to soak it several times (thanks one more time). I decided to go another way, and soaked it for 33-36 hrs. I did completely the same what @spacemonkey42 wrote here, thank you.

And guess what, now the mechanism works perfectly! I'm so glad. Btw, during the soaking I grew some mushrooms lol, take a look. Any ideas what can it be?
