Gillette Slim doors

I bought a Gillette slim cheap at an antique store and it was sticking a little thought it would fix it once I got it cleaned up. Got it super clean but it still sticks a little. Doors seem to open and close properly and 1/2 turn tighten works well. However just as doors come together on center bar gets hard to turn, you turn it harder it will click and then operate normally doors do jump a little before closing. It almost seems like a clearance issue as they come together with center bar once it overcomes this rubbing works great. Adjustments all work perfect. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it??

The Gillette Slim is one of my favorite vintage razors. Fixing it up would be well worth it and give you an excellent razor.

Diagnostics in words? hmmmmmm
Fixes in words .... hmmmm harder, but I try

hold razor closed, looking at the end cap
the pointy bits that stick out beyond the end caps
slowly open and close
noting what those pointy bits do in relation to the guard bar
repeat for the other side 50/50 chance of seeing the right side first

maybe?

Ok I got it under my magnifying light and watched really closely. The pointy part of the opening mechanism was getting trapped or pinched and then would break free. Under magnification I could see a small dent in the same corner of the safety bar. See the butter knife thread and thru some small tweaks got the doors working pretty even. Had some blade gap issues not being even worked on that some more and to the eye looks pretty good. Will dig out my feeler gauges tomorrow and adjust on it some more to really dial it in.

Have one last question the doors smooth to a point and then tend to fall closed rather than glide to a close is that normal or is that another adjustment. Opening works pretty smooth.

Absolutely normal :D they flop around if you tip it upside down when they are open. The doors are coming uphill as the close then flop over center and go down hill 🪜

Interesting I got them adjusted pretty well but one still opened just a tad sooner. I got out the feeler guage and started working on the guard based on published blade gap data and just tweaking all around to get close to the right blade gap. Blade gap isnt perfect but very close and I noticed the doors now open perfectly after working on the blade gap.
