What's new

Question - for my wife

Howdy!

I'm very new traditional wet shaving and using safety razors.
Last night my wife wanted to try my new way of shaving.
I created a lather of Proraso soap, Glycerine, and williams soap for a super lather.
She used my new EJ89 and the lather on her legs. She enjoyed the lather, but stopped part way through and
went back to her venus because she was scared of cutting herself, but continued using the lather.
She loves the lather and commented on how she would rather use than than the gel/goop in a can she usually does.
I wanted to get her a brush and some soap of her own...a scent that is feminine.
Recommendations for soap/creams/pucks and a brush for a woman to use on her legs?
Thanks in advance.

There are many good artisan soap makers out there. I use and love Mikes Natural Soaps, but there is Mystic Waters, Queen Charlotte Soaps and Mama Bears. I would check out the sites and see what scent would appeal to you both. That's fun to do! As far as a brush, my wife LOVES to use my Semogue Owners Club Boar. It has soft tips, good backbone and is large enough to be efficient for lathering legs.

I highly recommend Cyril R. Salter Wild Rose cream and some Burt's Bees rosewater to follow it up. A nice soft silvertip badger brush (perhaps something less dense like a Vulfix). My wife loved the shave I gave her using this combo and she keeps bugging me when I'm going to do it again.

+1 on the soaps. There are many fragrances that will likely appeal to her. Try a couple samples from each, perhaps. I use an Omega '49 boar brush, which is quite large, but I don't know how it compares in size to the Semogue referred to above. You may wish to warn her that it takes a week or two for the smell to dissipate and the bristles to get broken in on a boar, but once it does it is much softer that a badger.

Brush: Omega 6214 or 6215 silver tip.
Hard soap: Stirling Soap Co. strawberry or citrus
Cream: Rose of Bulgaria or Herbs of Bulgaria (lavender)

Out of the strawberry and citrus right now (need another week to cure), but I do have pumpkin pie pucks.....

From what I have read the Stirling soap is not holding together quite yet. Any particular reason you are recommending this to a new shaver out of the hundreds of other soaps available that aren't problematic?

I would recommend going with a synthetic brush if she plans on leaving it in the shower and then some rose shaving cream from Trumper or one of the other English brands should do the job.

My wife loves the smell of cella, but prefers to use a brushless cream on a daily basis. I found a derby tube of lavender at a local store and she's been using it ever since.

KMF in the 11oz pump bottle. Can be used with or without a brush and will store easily in the shower. I got my GF started on this stuff primarily because of the ease and flexibility of use.

Institut Karite soap. It's remarkably protective, and it smells fresh and creamy. Plus, it's French, which proves you love her.

Whoa! Thanks for even more suggestions I have to go through... :)
seriously thanks for the advice and recommendations.
Also, the synthetic brush is a good idea for sure since i'm sure she will not take as much care as I do with my brush.

Nice combo. Well done and I may have to pursue this as part of Christmas package.

I presented my wife with a Tweezerman Badger brush and a tube of D.R. Harris Rose shaving cream.

She shaved her legs last night and she loved it!

She is sold and thinks im the best husband in the world. :) thanks guys for all the advice....

My wife is thinking about trying out the wet shaving thing on her legs while soaking in the tub after a long day of work and then taking care of the kids (don't worry gals, I do half of the child care). What do you guys and gals think about a shaving stick as opposed to a puck or cream? Would it be easier in the tub. I want to make sure it is the easiest/most enjoyable expreience she can have.

I shave my legs (for cycling...don't judge me) and I find that when I use a shave soap intended for the face, it dries out my legs' skin like crazy.

I find it's easiest to shave my legs in the shower without any cream at all. Being in the shower keeps the skin and hair lubricated well enough.

My wife, though, does use a Palmolive Shave Stick and gets great results from it.
