Pils vs. Feather a stainless fight to the death

I suppose this isn't the place to mention that I have been having a recurring dream of finding a Pils for $10US at a yard sale .....

I've used both razors - Feather blades in each. The Pils was on loan from an exceptionally generous B&B member, and I purchased the Feather.

Both are great to look at and a pleasure to shave with; but.....neither is aggressive. I preferred the Feather razor; however, after a couple of weeks, I went back to my Cobra Classic.

So, now the answer: of the two, Pils and Feather, the Feather is my choice.

I only have the Feather, which is an excellent razor, it really is. I think this question can only be answered by the person using both razors.....

I have the feather and it does require a different angle to get the best result. I find the appearance and feel to be top notch. Not like my EJ Chatsworth which is a real looker but the feather is better engineered has better feel in the hand and with its grip design it ain't going anywhere in your hand. It has a matte to satin finish, nothing special but the metal finishing is top notch.

I've been shaving with a Feather ,using Feather blades, for months and find it is superior however I'm very curious now to at least give the PILS a try. VERY!!!

I wish you guys would stop posting about the Pils v. Feather. You are tempting me to buy both - and I can't afford it right now! :w00t:

Both are beautiful razors and as jgkeegan said, I would love to find this in a yard sale - or pawn shop, or anywhere else.

Tempting is right.

I currently have three razors that I love with two customs on the way; a bull mastiff from Bob and another beauty from Bob Quinn at Elite. I am sure I will love those too.

Then what?

Ok I admit it. I want a Pils. I can do without the Feather because all reports indicate it is less aggressive than I want. But I want a Pills. I want a Pills. I want a Pills.

Now, if I stand on my toes and twirl counterclockwise three times a Pils will appear in my hand.

I hope.

Well fellows,

After using the Feather for the week, it is clear to me, at least, that the Pils is my choice in this deathmatch.

In summary, that Feather is a remarkably well made tool, machined to perfection. The grip is perfectly positive at all times. The blade presentation is less agressive than the Pils, and I prefer more agressiveness than the Feather was providing. I would recommend the Feather to anyone who wants a top of the line razor that will outlast the owner, and wants something that isn't so agressive as a Pils.

You should have tried Treet carbon blades... But mine is back in the box too. There is a 1915 Gillette Old-type in the stand now. I am going to compare this one to the ASR.

I haven't used either. I did take delivery of one of the new Weber stainless steel razors a few days ago though. Seems to be basically a Gillette old type head design on a fairly heavy duty, long handle. So far so good, still testing it out and will post details in a few days. For $55 I'm certainly quite satisfied.

First shave / impression: the Old-type and the ASR shave about as close. Must admit I am a bit surprised to find that. But, will continue the test.

I like my Feather AS. I do find that it takes a while to get used to...and it can "seem" to be mild. I just upped my angle and it becomes more aggressive. I think you should keep playing with it Metatron.

...but, my Pils does what I ask without any special handling, right out of the box.

...but every razor has its own requirements. Maybe the Pils fit the style you were used to therefore providing a more complete shave. Devil's advocate here.

I had to take care against confirmation bias. I admit I "like" the Pils more and I didn't want it to lose the comparison. But the fact is, for me, I can get a smoother shave from the Pils, and that is the ultimate measure of a razor.

It seems no one is interested in the Feather for $145, though...

How would one do this?

How do you do that?

Here is one gents experience, thin plastic from a beer cup can work also.

Metatron,
I saw your B/S/T earlier today, before I saw this thread. If my automotive situation was taken care of it'd be a done deal. I think maybe the timing (i.e. back to school) is what's kept it from selling. I know my wife sees tax free weekend here in Texas as a challenge to do a single family national stimulus!
