Slant vs Slide question

I very rarely nick myself, but today I did. While doing a Gillette slide across my upper lip, I picked up a nick. I use the slide a lot but have never tried a slant. For this particular pass, across the grain on the upper lip, does anyone who has used both slants and slides, do you have any observations? Are they pretty much interchangeable or is one better, or worse?

The slide was promoted by Gillette as a technique for using standard razors without any slant. Generally, on the flatter portions of the face.

You will note on many slants not just the blade held at an angle, but twisted with variable blade exposure. If one corner of the blade sticks out more than the other, getting nicked would be a lot easier when moving the razor in a partially lateral direction.

It really depends on what razors you're comparing specifically - because DE blades generally end up being pretty rigid in twisting slants, you're want to compare razors of similar rigidity as well as blade exposure.
I find it also depends on the angle of the slant and the slide - they need to just about match.
Rigidity and slant angle being about the same, I find them comparable, but a little more foolproof with a slant.

Slants do not just have the "slide" built in, many even twist and torsion the blade so much that the edge becomes pretty rigid. Superslant and Wunderbar e.g.. This gives them extremely good cutting characteristics.

You can mimic a slant with a normal razor, but I cannot quite achieve the same effect.

If you don't have a slant yet, that's something you could explore over the winter months, maybe get one for xmas. I highly recommend the Razorock Superslant, even if it is on the more expensive side for Razorock. What plate would fit you best can probably be guesstimated in related threads by you or by telling people what razors you use in general.

Thanks. Let Santa know I use an ATT Windsor with the mild copper plate and a Personna USA Platinum every day. 😜

I would tell your wife Santa to go for a L2/L2+ plate. :)

SB or OC doesn't matter that much for the Superslant and can be decided on your personal preference, I had a L3 SB and still have the L3++ OC and the Wunderbar, the OC doesn't make much of a difference for this razor head, characteristics remain the same.
