Picked up a Kamisori

While looking around the net yesterday I came across this Kamisori. I tried one a bit ago and wasn't all that happy with it. Lately I've been wanting to try another and both this. Anyone have any more info on it?

Never tried one myself, but there was a chap on here who bought one. I forget who it was tho. I see them on EBay on BIN from Japan.

Looks nice!

I found that post but no follow up.

There is some good info on another site about the maker and razor. Seems to have positive reviews.

It's suppose to be shave ready. If not I might have to hit ya up for a honing David :)

I dont think yellow steel is considered a good steel
To be honest it might have been better to look for a razor made of white steel.

. Yellow 3 has the least carbon, 2 has more carbon, and so on. White steel is a more pure (less sulfur and phosphorus) version of yellow steel. White #3 has the least carbon, white #2 has a bit more, and white #1 has the most carbon. Blue steel is white steel with added chromium and tungsten. Blue #2 has the same amount of carbon as white #2, and blue #1 the same as white #1. Blue super has a bit more carbon, chromium, and tungsten than blue #1.

I know for kitchen knives yellow is to be avoided and the difference between white and blue tends to be a matter of personal preference.

Youll probably get a decent shave out of it but might consider looking to a higher end Kami to get the full experience

Just my .02

More information? That is an instrument of death, they bit me every time I used one.
Dibs on disposing of it for him!
You can have it, I never want to see one of those things ever again.

Having said that, it looks very nice Rick.

The box label says "Japanese Razor"
I honed one of those recently it had a bit of uneven grind but took nice edge, the person that uses it says he likes the edge.

I am sure it will shave well. The demands places on kitchen knives are different than razors. A super hard steel won't necessarily make a great steel for a razor, but it might be a killer combat knife.

I certainly wouldn't judge the color of the steel by looking at those pictures. It's highly likely the white balance wasn't perfect, and there's no way on earth our monitors are calibrated the same way.

It's a really nice-looking blade.

"Yellow steel" or "yellow paper" steel was one of the names invented by Iwasaki to differentiate metals. There is yellow, white and blue. There may have been more too-I forget

Nice looking razor.

Yellow is still a fine steel, and in this application I don't think the steel being slightly less pure than white will matter. In a kitchen knife yellow is not as great for some knives because the impurities can cause some ingredients to react more with the knife. As long as the HT is right, I would assume it would shave nicely.
