Perfet lather in 30 seconds...

I recently moved to a place with hard water. I have never been able to get exceptional lather in the past, so this was a challenge to work with. Over the past two weeks i have got the hang of it and figured out what i was doing wrong before.

I had seen videos of people loading up brushes and working them into foamy lathers that even when i managed to get after taking too much time, didnt perform at all for me.

So i tried something new, quick and effective. I have pretty much stuck with Tabac soap for all of this, but i used TOBS soap as well.

1. Soak Brush
2. Shake a couple times
3. Rub on soap for 15-20 seconds
4. Paint lightly onto face
5. Shave

Instead of trying to get thick creamy lather that was never slick, i have used thin layer of very slick slimy soap.

So if anyone else is having trouble, you may want to give up on the pretty fluffy foam and just make a slick hydrating layer. Forget "lathering" just paint it on, and go over it a few times to get it even.

London is noted for amongst other things, its pretty low quality water.

My method consists of

Take a damp, shaken brush
Swirl for 10 seconds on the puck
Paint this v foamy lather on the face and leave
Return the brush to the puck for a good loading - probably another 20 seconds
Face lather as normal.

This has worked for everything from Williams to MWF and hasn't let me down (touch wood  ) yet

Foam isn't what you want to begin with; it's a moist, slick mixture like yoghurt.

If foam is what you produced in the past, it's likely you just overworked the lather with too little product and water, and got too much air in there, you can overwork lather.

I've recently taken to using boars, and we have hard water too. So hard it stuffs my taps up and I have to replace them every 3 years or so.

A slightly wetter brush (which I find boars need to be, but will work with badger too), and a bit longer on the puck will lift enough soap to work up a creamy mix with a bit of added water - no matter how hard it is.

I'd suggest trying to work yours a bit longer on the soap and face, and see if it can get better, you do need to get enough water into it, as slimy soap paste can drag and irritate.
