P160, your thoughts?

Been interested in P160 lately. Don't know too much about it to tell you the truth. I was interested in some opinions from those who have or are using it. jfyi- I'm 100% a soap guy (although I have 4 tubes of unopened palmolive collecting dust) my rotation is pretty basic, MWF, Tabac, Proraso green, AOS, L'occitane. Based on what you know of these soaps, would P160 make it into my rotation? Or would it be a 1 hit wonder? thx in advance.

Jeff

I have it, kind of a novelty soap i guess for me. It works well but its not going to replace Tabac, Harris, AOS or MWF anytime soon. Sweet almond smell, lathers easily and works well enough. I prefer Valobra almond to it for an almond soap but really only because of the scent as they both work about the same. I won't be replacing it when its gone but it really is a decent product, just not on the top tier for me.

I dont know about the P160 but I do know you are sitting on 4 tubes of great creams in your possesion right now ... Palmolive.
Crack one of those tubes, you wont regret it :001_smile

If you're interested in trying a sample size of it instead of buying a kilo, you can get some at shoebox shave shop online at really good prices...LINKY

I have a kilo of it.

It lathers and performs great but the soap isn't getting a lot of attention from me right now.
Although it is on the shelve with all my others soaps (+- 15 and buying more :001_smile), I like to take my floral soaps more now for spring and summer.
It will come back in rotation in the colder and darker days for certain.

With me not a success owing to the almond fragrance which caused my skin to become irritated. Other than that, it's an Italian soft soap, which give an entirely new meaning to 'density' and 'cushion' in the lather department. It is dirt cheap, especially if you buy a kilo of the stuff. (In Italy you pay about €10 or so for it.) I would have loved to have this as a main rotation soap, but unfortunately I can't.

I've used Cella in the past, great lather, but the bitter almond fragrance just became too bizarre and I had to gave it away. P160 seems to be very similar, nowhere near as sticky as Valobra and Cella, but is a semi soft and white soap with a very pleasant sweet almond fragrance (to me, Valobra seems to have little or no fragrance, and Cella, well...just wrong for me), you get it a big chunk of it (100 grams) from Superlather for $3 and I understand you can get it at Shoebox for $4, and maybe others. I just spent a full five days shaving with P160 in my regular rotation, with a straight razor, and am pleased to find that the lather is superb, with lots of protection and staying power on your face. I kept going back to the soap, because the lather diminished in the heat of the scuttle, but that's not a problem in my book, anyway. What the posts above seem to be saying is that it's not AOS, Penhaligon's or Tabac, but what do you expect for $3? Yes, you can definitely find more expensive soap, but P160 is in my rotation that does include the best, all named above, plus others.

The P160 works well, its a low priced soap that preforms like a upper midrange product.

The scent is too die for.....no really, its a horrible, artificial, nauseatingly sweet marzipan.I did not care for it.:tongue_sm
The good news is its so inexpensive that you can try it for yourself.

Its available at Hyperwarps new storefront as noted above.

I've found that when I milled it into an old wide coffee mug, the smell has almost gone away completely and it becomes the perfect soap base for superlather as it doesn't interfere with any cream I've tried it on. I am thinking of buying a kilo now.

Are we discussing the tipo duro or the tipo morbido? I prefer the morbido because I can make lather almost as quickly as a high end cream. That said, I have both of these in my rotation as well as Cella. I don't really distinguish between them because they perform almost exactly the same for me.

I'm not a fan of almond scents but the performance of these soaps is really strong. I break off 200g or so and put in in a little tub and let it air out for a while so the scent dissipates some.

I get lather almost as good as Tabac or MWF and I get it quickly and with very little effort. That makes these a go to for times when I'm in a rush.

I had my first shave with P160 this morning.

I couldn't believe how bad this stuff smelled. Wow--it really is awful! :skep: I'm going to leave it uncovered for a while, hopefully some of that foul sweetness will go away.

As they always say, YMMV, but it's funny, because in my case, in the past I didn't like the sweet smell. The first really good soap I got was Cella, and the dry bitter almond fragrance just repulses me now, honestly. Anyway I never could make myself get used to it, so I gave away my wonderful Cella. A couple of months went by, and I got some P160, and guess what, I love it! The P160 is a very good shaving soap in my opinion, so there you go. Some guys love it and some guys can't stand it. (Now if they invent a better smelling version of Cella, then I can't lose!)

From my review of this product:

This is flat out amazing stuff!!

This has a absolutely wonderful smell of almond. Yes, it is strong, but very pleasant, so no complaints from me.

This is called soap, but it is more like a heavy paste that you can mold into whatever container you like.

This easily produces tons of rich creamy lather. Probably an excellent product for a newbie, since it lathers like crazy.

A word on Packaging, and price:

I got mine from Shoeboxshaveshop: $4.19 for a 3.5 oz- 3.8 oz size piece. This is considered the sample size. If you love this so much that you want a two- three year supply, you can buy it by the 1KG size (2.2 lbs!!!) for $24.99.

This is great value, at only $0.74 cents per ounce when bought in bulk.

I just had my wife smell it, and she likes it. She said it reminded her of maraschino cherries.

It performed really well, but I don't know if I can get past the scent.

As usual, I am in the maniorty. I just the "sample" size from
Shoebox last week. I have used it twice and got good
lather both times. I also like the scent. As they say, YMMV...
