Opinions - Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve Cologne

I like it. Less of a "barber shop" smell than normal Pinaud. It smells like what a guy who wrote about baseball in the 1920s would smell like.

Special Reserve is unabashedly masculine. It smells like excitement. It smells like things are getting done. Like leaving the office and going to the job site and putting on a hard hat. It has a "Hold my beer and watch this" kind of recklessness.

It smells like fighting zombie polar bears on the moon.

I find I can take it or leave it. It's not my favorite, but it's not bad. For me it seems to have pretty long legs, but it kinda mellows as the day goes on. The #1 reason I keep it in my rotation is that the wife LOVES the smell. I mean really, really loves it. As I've mentioned before, it's like liquid Viagra for her, so...... it stays in the rotation.

Now I understand why you've been doing 50 push up during you're rotation and I can understand why you're wife LOVE it so much

Picked up my bottle today and have been testing it out.

The verdict? I like it. Its a keeper.

The scent is very different than the other Pinaud products in a way where it's the opposite of being on on the sweet side.

I also noticed that after about 30 minutes the scent kind of morphs slightly and gets a little sweeter. I read a similar comment about the scent changing (for the better) after 30 minutes or so on an Amazon review.

I am starting to like Clubman SR after trying it a few times. I have never been good at describing smells so I won't try except for it is dark not light like classic Clubman and it is not spicy like VIBR. It is not overpowering but it is strong and does linger for several hours. If you don't want to buy a bottle Maggard Razors sells 12ml sample bottles.

I feel it has some similar leather notes with Aramis edt.

You fine sir, nailed that eluding scent that I could not place my finger on! Aramis! The same cologne worn by my drill instructor circa 1981, and by me later on. I just landed my hands on a bottle, and couldn't figure out why I was so familiar with it! I plan to post a review later, once I've given it the once over. Thanks Bhugo!

Check out Avon's Oland. Also in the same scent vicinity. Closer to Aramis than SR if you ask me.

Bootlegger's El Dorado > Aramis

:)

+1

I think that Aramis and El Dorado are in the same neighborhood, as far as the type of scent, but El Dorado is a lot more interesting. If you like Aramis, it's definitely worth the trouble to mix up a batch of the El Dorado, for sure.

Dont use too much. Its great as long as you don't use too much. Try a single drop the first time you use it, and work up from there. A splash is just too much.

Special Reserve has grown on me to the point where it's my #2 favorite AS. #1 favorite AS is Humco Bay Rum.

Wife likes SR as-well. Says it smells spicy.

I am a huge Pinaud Clubman fan. I have many of their scents. I have to say the Special Reserve is not very high up on my list. It is a strong scent, one which overpowered my wife as we drove somewhere in the car one day. If I do wear it, it is during the winter. Yes, there is some leather and smoke to the scent. But again, once I finish it I may not buy it again. My favorite AS of all regardless of brand is the original Pinaud Clubman. I also love their Lime Sec. Especially during this hot summer. But as others have said, it's not very expensive. I don't regret buying it and who knows, it may grow on me like The Veg did.
