In regards to the Gillette New, why would you go with a long over a short toothed comb? Are they that different?

Just got a "NEW" in the mail today, haven't used it yet. Looks like it is a "long tooth", will give it a try tomorrow.
(just trying to find a DE that gives me a comparable shave to my SE's. The EJ 89 DL is a step in the right direction but need another to work into the rotation)

Here's the best info I've seen yet on short vs. long combs:

Interestingly, most discussions point to the long comb as being milder.
Woodfluter's info says the opposite. I've only tried a long comb, and I remember needing to be VERY cautious, or it would BITE!
I have never tried a short comb, but I would not say a long comb is aggressive. It is a very good, smooth shaver. It shaves about as close as my old-types (smooth shavers too).
My daughter found me a near mint USA short comb (where would a be without my girl). Will try it this evening.
I must be the odd man out as I find the short comb to be smoother and more forgiving.
I shave my head too and I like the way the long combs don't poke me in the head the way most other opened comb razors do.
Also the turned over long combs make maintaining proper blade angle easy.
It works great. Can not find much difference between long and short comb.
Thanks for passing that on. I shave my head too, and have recently been thinking about getting an open comb razor.
