What's new

One week with my black beauty

I recieved my '80(ish) black beauty adjustable a week or so ago, and have had about 5 shaves with it, and all I can say is WOW!!

I reckon everyone find that "special" razor for them, and I think this is mine. I don't think I have ever nicked myself with it, no irritation and a bbs or near bbs with every shave. The shaves with it are that good, I shaved last night , for example, and won't shave now until tomorrow morning, it's unbelievable.

I am only around 7 weeks DE shaving, and I really feel I have made massive progress when I pick it up, it's definatley my "paradise island" razor.

Combined with my newly acquired Arko sticks and the knowledge and kindness I have recieved from B&B members, shaving is a total delight and a truly rewarding experience :)

Nice to hear you found a razor that works so well! I'm currently getting to know my G3 Fatboy, and at some point I'll want to try some other adjustables. The black beauty is definitely on my list.

What setting are you using? Do you keep the same setting throughout the shave or do you use different settings for each pass, as some do? And lastly, what blades do you feed it?

Congrats on finding a razor that works so well for you! The Super Adjustable is an outstanding performer - some say it is better than either the Fat Boy or Slim.

Hi, i was using 7 initially on my face, and 5 on my neck, last night i used 9 on my face and 6 on my neck, not a bit of irritation, or nicks.

I have used Timor ( for first time last night) and wilks and gillette 5 o clock yellows, all wonderful, oh and astra sp (of which i am awaiting delivery of 100),

when i got this razor it immeiatley made me 100% certain i would be wet shaving for the rest of my life.

The best thing about it is that I get to shave each and every day :)

I go way back with the Slim and the Super Adjustable. To 1965 for my first Slim, and 1969, I think, maybe 1970, for my regular length SA. For me, they work very much alike, with a single notch less aggressiveness available. Recently, I've added a 195 Adjustable, and it's closer to being the same than the SA is, with the aggressiveness level the exact same. I like them all just about equally well, with a slight favoritism toward the Slim, due to its longer history with me.

I used my Black Beauty for the first time tonight....mother of god it burns!!!! I should not have started on 7...lol....the next shave with it I will definately be dialing down the setting. Live and learn...boy if you think you have your technique down, grab one of these for the first time and be humbled.......lol!!!!

I use three razors in rotation.

My Black Beauty
My 39c
My Grandfather's Slim Adjustable

It would just be the top two if the Slim wasn't my grandfather's. Not that the Slim is bad. It's really very good. Just personal preference.

I had three all at the same time, the short handle, the long handle and the black plastic base model. Sold them all as the shaves I was getting were terrible. Then in March this year came a cross a short handle in very good condition on the Bay for a few quid inc postage,"thought for the money it'll look good on display in the den if nothing else". Well lets say that up untill a few weeks back I'd used nothing else at all. The shaves were smooth, irritation free and the razor was like new. It's only just given way to my Gillette naked NEW which for me is even better. But it's still there in the rotation of three at the moment. The other is a Merk 1904 41C

Great to hear! I've ranted out my slim in the past. Only razor I've been using for more then a month. Set it on 6 and haven't looked back.

Yep, I use mine on 9 for my face the last couple of times, and 7 for my neck, this razor must have been made with my face in mind, it's like removing the hair with a magic wand :)

i too love my black handled super adjustable (1960-something), was my first vintage purchase only a few weeks ago, and has lead me down the slippery slope of many vintage purchases since!
