What's new

One variable, many flavors?

To try to reduce the variables while I figure out which blade(s) are for me, I decided to stop going through shaving cream samples and standardize on a soap. I picked Mama Bear's shaving soaps, with the theory that they're all the same soap with different scents. Is this true?

If it's true, I figure I can try all the Mama Bear soaps and consider them a constant.

Anyhow, I gave MB Spicey Lime a first try today. I added water, took a shower, came out and poured the water into my lathering bowl. What looked like a gelatinous film went into the bowl. It didn't lather, so I disposed of it, then resumed from where I left off. Any idea what that film was? It didn't happen when I tried MB Lime Ice.

That was glycerin... looks like of like ectoplasm but clearish?? It will come out of the soap when in a warm or humid place sometimes...

Its spirit left?!? Oh noes! Well, it worked anyway. So can I treat these eight soaps as identical but for scent?

LOL!!!

yes, they are the same other than different scents.. but I think that is true of any of the soaps.. someone please correct me if I am wrong on this....

Might be just a little more to it than that. After some people aren't able to use Dragon's Blood. Certain scents have more than just scents added to them. Right?

It's a good question.. it is late at night so I will give a quick answer. I use both essential oils (which are derived from plants) and fragrance oils, that are synthentically made. Both types of fragrance have been known to irritate.. it is contact dermititus I believe that reaction is called, but it can consist of red skin and a burning sensation.

Even tho essential oils are said to be pure.. they are not really.. they can be affected by many factors, imagine pesticides...

synthetics are made chemically to imitate smells.. and the last I knew (I haven't looked at in a while) the manufacturers of them did not have to say exactly what was in each of their fragrances, or what they may have diluted them with. This makes it impossible to narrow down what the irritation was caused by. There is a large movement now to sell phalate free synthetics and I try and stick with those for the most part, but it isn't always easy to find them and the large percentage of them have phalates in them.

Often you will find it is only one scent that causes an issue with your skin.. and not another one.. it truly seems impossible to narrow down.. and it frustrates me. I would love to have a product line that I knew no one would be allergic to..

With that said, I tried taking Dragon's Blood off the list of soaps.. and there was an uproar from many who adore this scent.. it is also one of mine by the way.. so the best thing I can do is post a warning about it.. and hope and pray that those who buy it do a patch test with it first.. or buy a sample and use that instead of buying a whole tub of soap.

I carry a LOT of different fragrances.. and truly, each one is unique.

and I am overly tired and running on.. but I hope this helps a little..

Best, Sue
