What's new

Omega Hi Brush. Yeah, I think so

Something about that new Omega with the rainbow laminate wood handle caught my eye. Actually had to write Omega, Inc. in Italy to find out where to get one; they sent me to Shaving ie. in Ireland (great vendor). So yesterday it shows up. Indeed, this is legit! Of all the 3synthetic brushes I own, this is gonna be top of the heap. Plus the handle is really the bomb. If you are in the market for a new synthetic brush, you owe it to yourself to look into an Omega Hi Brush....uh huh!

I've always really liked the look of that brush. Let us know what you think about it after you've broken it in all nice-like.

If this proves to be anything at all like my other synthetics (Muhle and Omega 346235) there will be no real "break in" per se. Reportedly synthetic fibers change precious little over time. That was indeed the case with my aforementioned brushes and this new Omega will probably follow suit.

Out of the box it was crazy soft and maintained what I think is the proper backbone which would enable this to be a very versatile brush. Initial use was with TOBS Eton College (anyone else think this scent is a tad reminiscent of Arko?). Results were marvelous. Shortly we're gonna see how it handles one of the harder soaps.

Your review will be especially interesting because the recent, first (I think) B&B review of an Omega Hi brush judged it unfavorably relative to Muhle and perhaps other new-generation synthetics. I look forward to reading what you have to say.

Pictures?? Sure

Along with the above posted pictures...let me tell you a tad about this brush:

Visually I find this Omega nice to look at, but then I have always been a fan of laminate/pakkawood. It's colorful and durable and fits my hand very well. Not much else to say I guess on that point.

The knot...ah yes the knot. I have read the earlier reviews of this brush...simply put I do not agree at all. Out of the box the Hi-Brush was plenty soft and yet maintained enough backbone to create the lather you see here from a puck of C&E Nomad, hardly a soft-ish soap, in about 30 seconds. There was not a lot of splay; in general it reminded my on a firmness scale of my Simpson Colonel (Best Badger) but significantly softer on the face. I cannot help but wonder if a knot from the earlier Omega Synthetics (like in my 346235 model) may not have mistakenly been glued into the handle of the previously reviewed brush??
The slight prickly sensation mentioned in the other review was noticeable in the 346235 the first 10-15 times I used it. I did not really find it all that unpleasant though and after a while the pricklies went away.

The bottom (and oddly cut-off) pictures were taken right after the brush was cleaned and shaken "dry" no weird clumping or other undesirable hair formations. Looks a lot more organized than your average wet boar I'm thinking

I also have a Muhle Synthetic (most probably a V1 from what I can figure). This too is one fine brush but it does lack that solid-yet-plush feel afforded by the Hi-Brush. Bottom line?

They're all winners. Were there EVER a time that the YMMV acronym should be put into play, it is here.

If I HAVE to pick a champion....the Hi-Brush triumphs. The knot is to me all that much nicer. Although the Hi-Brush handle is really rather artistic, the 346235 is that much a better ergonomic fit for me, and it looks nice in a retro-cool fashion

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
