I got myself a Pilot Magnum- a cheap Pakistani razor with a great bulldog handle, which is now on my FaTip, and a badly made, badly plated Sabi/Mariner style head.
The cap on the Pilot has very ropey studs and it's hard to align the blade properly making for a dicey shave with that very aggressive head.
I also got a post-1921 102a style Old Type which is just too mild for me- I tried shimming it and loosening the handle, but after the FaTip and the NEW it just won't do.
Then inspiration struck, and I paired the Old Type cap and handle (which I weighted with lead shot and evostick) with the Pilot baseplate.
The result is a magnificent shaver.
It's only slightly less aggressive than the FaTip but also very smooth, is a pleasure to use and also gives a great finish.
Any suggestions as to what it should be called?
