So I just finished my 5th shave with this chunky razor last evening, and I'll tell you, I'm impressed!
When I bought this razor, I honestly wasn't expecting to much. I thought it was sort of gimmicky, being flat black and all, and that it's trying to hard to be the biggest, baddest, most aggressive heavyweight razor out there. Even the name was gimmicky to me, but being a USAF vet, I thought it was kind of cool and I do like it's looks. I figured for 50 bucks, if it didn't shave well, it would at least look good on the shelf.
Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. This razor is a seriously good shaver. Paired with a Treet Carbon blade, it shaves as smoothly and efficiently as any razor I have ever used. Two passes leaves me with a very acceptable shave, but 3 passes leaves my face and neck as smooth as glass with zero irritation. Just beautiful.
If you like heavy, you'll love this heavy honkin piece of steel. At 136 grams, they advertise it as the heaviest on the market. I'm not sure if that's true, but it's heavy! The term, "let the razor do the work" was written for this razor, as zero pressure is needed here. With all of that weight, it simply glides down your face. The handle is SS, but I'm not sure about the plate and cap. Probably not. The handle is short and very fat, but it works really well. Grip is also good with dry or wet fingers, but with soapy hands it could be just a little slippery, but nothing to off-putting. You don't want to drop this bad boy on your toe! The blade never got caked in soap, so drainage is good. I would say this is a 5 or 6 out of 10 on the aggressive scale. Blade feel isn't to much and it never feels dangerous. Long strokes are possible and smooth, which makes for a quicker shave. Pretty good audible feedback as well.
Construction is very good. No blade alignment issues. The stud that the handle screws into is a good length for strength, however screwing it in was tight. I ran a Q Tip into it with some oil on it and it screws in much better now, so no real issues there.
Bottom line, this is a very good razor. Much better and more refined than it looks. I think some good engineering and thought went into this razor. At $50, I can't ask for much more from a razor.
