Old Type Restoration

While rummaging about through my grandpa & grandma's belongings over Thanksgiving, we came across an old box containing lots of awesome goodies that belonged to my grandpa. Amongst those was a gold plated 20's old type that had seen better days and MANY miles. The case is beat up, the interior is basically a lost cause, there was a blade with hair and soap scum still in it (and my grandpa passed away in '82)... it was quite the used razor.

That having been said! I was able to clean up the razor pretty well, for the most part. There are only a couple very small places where the original gold plate is still intact. The barrel is split on the head end and has gunk in the gap which has inevitably made it worse over time. The head does not stay attached to the barrel for this reason. The head screw barely has enough traction left to put in a blade secure it.

THAT having been said... ;) I still am strongly considering restoring this as much as possible so that it can be used and passed on to future generations. I know there was a member on here a while ago that could replate, and I'm hoping there still is! Also, I'm wondering what the best way is to handle the cracked barrel. Someone said J-B weld, epoxy, etc. I remember at one time I found an article that talked about cutting the crack, then putting in a piece of metal to fill it and then finishing it. No idea where that got off to. I'd just really like to restore this razor to as good as can be so it can get used for another 60 years or more. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
