Ogallala Bay Rum Special Reserve Double Strength Cologne -- PAIN!

I picked up a bottle of this at great expense from a UK barber. While I like the scent I was really surprised at the sting (more a prolonged burn). I've always used a splash and like a good sting but this was crazy. Maybe I need to wait 30 minutes post-shave before I apply this, as it is cologne not AS. I saw that it had witch hazel in it but really can't believe it should be this painful. The first time I was staring at myself in the mirror for over a minute as the burn intensified trying to decide if I should panic and wash it off. After 2-3 minutes it subsided and unfortunately so does the scent before too long. Doesn't seem worth it.

What's up with the burn? Is it the witch hazel? Wait X minutes post shave before applying? Or an allergic reaction or something?

As you said it is the cologne not the A.S..I wouldn't worry. The aftershave feels really nice on the face. As a matter of fact I have found nothing else that compares to the way my face feels after I use their aftershave. But I find even the double strength does not last as last as long as I would like a scent to last.

Yep. It's well known for the burn. I think it's the cloves that do it. Powerful stuff. I love the burn and the smell both. But yes, do be sure to shake well unless you want too much of a good thing! :18:

Hey guys, I have been shaking it. Does anyone who has the cologne care to comment on how long they wait post-shave to apply it?

I give my face and head a shot of Witch Hazel wait a few minutes then what ever splash I'm using.Personally I love the burn the Special Reserve Bay Rum produces, shame the scent is fleeting.I've also used it as a cologne and still get a slight burn even hours after I've shaved.

Ive NEVER had a COLOGNE that DIDNT sting me like all H*** if I applied it Immediately after a shave. Thats what AFTER SHAVE is for. As far as the scent wearing off..??...that double strength stuff stays on me for days if I dont shower the very next morning...??

As far as Im concerned it does exactly what its suppose to do and Im glad of it

Thanks for the further insights. After spending £22 I don't want to dump it on BST just yet. I'll try leaving more time between shave and application.. or actually give it a go Saturday as that's my shave day off.

As for it lasting, maybe I'm being too conservative and will try to really splash on a load and see if it lasts longer.
