Ogallala Bay Rum shaving soap...stuff of cowboys they said.

Howdy fine folks of B and B!

Who is a fan of Ogallala Bay Rum shaving soap? Tell me what you like about it, pros and cons really,

I just received a sampler pack of 5 soaps in different fragrances as a gift from a friend on the grounds of "You play a lot of Red Dead Redemption...that has cowboys in it, this soap was used by cowboys it says on the site, so I got you some!

I really enjoy this shaving soap, Although I was nearly put off by the alarmingly strong scent it has, but I shaved with it and man is it wonderful, but I do have issues lathering it up, Any remedies you fine fellas you? I'm currently using a Men-U pure boar bristle brush.

Any and all discussion about Ogallala Bay Rum stuffs is grand.

Thanks Muchly!

I was put off by the scent initially, but grew to really enjoy it. I think it's awesome now. I haven't shaved with it yet, though. soon....

Tried it, hated the scent, an even worse lather!.....need I go on?!!

Love the scent. Lather was so-so, but I was able to get it to the point that it was workable.

Unfortunately, apparently my skin does not react well with melt-and-pour soaps. I always thought I felt a bit of irritation with Mamabears, but I always cycled through it so I never really put 2 and 2 together.
When I got the Ogallala, I REALLY liked the scent. Within a week, my face looked and felt like I had a bad sunburn on my cheeks. Neck was fine.. and I NEVER get irritation from the blade on my cheeks, it's always the neck/chinstrap.

Rotated back to Tabac and MWF and the irritation went away in 2 days.

I LOVED the scent. the lather was horrible, at first I thought it was since I was new to soaps. But no matter how much I loaded it just didn't work well at all. So I bathed with it, worked great for a shower soap.

..................really like the scent......... never tried the soap, but it can't be worse than Burt's Bees shave cream, can it?

Sure it can

Seriously... take heed at the comments about "burning".
I'll have that happen with soap when I have a sunburn, and at first I thought that's what was going on, but it got worse as the week went on and I was slathering on the Neutrogena triple/SPF and limiting my exposure to the sun... then the irritation stopped quickly when I rotated away from it.

Tried it one more time a month later and felt the "tingle" immediately.

I finally binned the puck and milled one of my SIM sticks into the container.
I'm glad I only paid $5 for that puck.

I'm actually sorry to hear all the negative reviews. About a year ago, at a Seattle area meet-up, I received a little bottle of Ogallala Bay Rum air freshener and loved it. On that basis, I thought maybe their Bay Rum soap would be something I should try. Now? Maybe not, especially since I just found a new cream (C.O. Bigelow) which I like a whole lot.

Ogallala scents are fantastic! The air freshener is really nice (that was one of the freebies thrown in with one of my orders), and the aftershaves and cologne are the real deal.
I really like their aftershave for when the weather is cooling off and my skin is drying out, but it's not quite dry enough to need to switch to the aftershave balms. Ogallala aftershaves have a fair oil content that helps keep your skin moisturized on those marginal days.

Just be sure to shake the bottle well before applying.

But the soap was a problem for me and I'm glad I only paid $5 for it.

I have the Bay Rum, Limes, & Peppercorn SS, the Bay Rum & Lemongrass SS, the A/S that go with the soaps and the OP a/s also. I have never had any problems w/ their lather. They stand up well to scuttle use and as melt&pours go, are some of the best out there-in fact, if I am planning on building a lather in my scuttle, these are the soaps I reach for.

Granted, you must shake up the a/s before application as the oils in it tend to separate, but otherwise an excellent product.

Sorry to see that some of our members are having problems w/ the soaps.
