Odd experience with FragranceX

So I've ordered from most discounted frag retailers without issue. I just placed two orders with FragranceX and just received both packages the other day. When I picked them up from the post office I noticed that one was opened. I immediately checked the contents to find that one of the bottles was missing. I contacted FragranceX support and they told me to take pictures of the missing bottle....yes, you read that right. I responded with a simple question. HOW AM I GOING TO TAKE PICTURES OF A MISSING BOTTLE OF COLOGNE???????? They then responded saying that there's no way that they didn't ship it and can I then take pictures of the cologne I received. I chose to file a dispute with Paypal with quotes from their emails and my responses and within 24 hours Paypal awarded my money back. That being said, I wonder if FragranceX has such a bad rep with Paypal that almost any reasonable dispute is granted.

If the fragrance went missing by a government agency, why would you still get the box?
Wouldn't they just return the whole thing to the sender?

Odd indeed.

Maybe the box wasn't sealed well enough or popped open and something fell out. The missing bottle could have broken or maybe no one noticed. I ordered a birthday present for my daughter on line. It was shipped to me by Fedex. When I got it, it looked like it had been opened by an angry wolverine. Long parallel slashes across the box had been taped over. The contents were both cut and broken. The vendor made good but I am pretty sure that it happened somewhere in transit and told me that they'd also straighten out Fedex.

I live in Canada so the package would've had to cross the boarder. I've noticed more so lately that more and more of my packages are showing up "inspected". If I had to guess as to what happened, I'd say that the package was scanned and pulled for review, opened, removed from bubble wrap and the one bottle was pushed to the side and forgot about. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt so I don't think it was stolen, just forgot about. What I find to be the more odd of this whole thing is how fast Paypal closed the dispute and awarded me the refund. I would've preferred to just have FragranceX resend the missing cologne but since it was to be an Xmas present, I have to purchase something else.

you're in canada, likely customs confiscated it because of restrictions about shipping alcohol. I've order things from Fragrance X before and got one package but the other never arrived.
sometimes Canada Customs will just pull out the offending item and send you the box even if the box is empty.

I was researching how to ship perfume to Canada and ran across a few threads wherein Canadians had posted a similar experience. The consensus was that Canada Post confiscated it. Some had a note form Canada Post in the box explaining that fragrance couldn't be shipped.

I live in the Great White North and have ordered fragrances and AS lotions from "the Bay" and other on line merchants outside of Canada and within Canada with no problem. It seems that if the fragrance is shipped in a plain brown wrapper and is not identified as bieng from a perfume vendor (ie FragranceX) except for the customs declaration, it does not get intercepted.

Most of these will clear customs. It is a Canada Post thing that parcels containing alcohol are considered as hazardous goods.

It can't be because of the alcohol because all of the other bottles of cologne arrived. I've ordered dozens from various online retailers. I'm not sure what happened. Just thought the Paypal thing was weird is all. Not a big deal.

I may he wrong, but I believe fragrancex ships canada orders from a canada warehouse...or that was my understanding

Only if it has it in stock. I ordered two packages 2 days apart and they showed up on the same day since one had to come from the US.

So did you dispute just the missing item?

That is odd with paypal awarding it so quickly, but at least it ruled in your favour
