Brush: Simpson M7 Manchurian
Soap: Martin de Candre Vétyver
Lather: Face lather
Razor: PAA El Fantasma
Blade: Wilkinson Sword (12)
Post: Ethos Clean Skin Food

Decided to slide into OCtober from Slantember using one of my OC slants. Great 2 pass shave leaving me feeling BBS 6 hours later.

Fatip lo Storto Originale (aka FOCS)
Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (yellow)
Fine Platinum
SOC 2-Band Finest

A great way to start the day! I'm still trying to find the best (for me) blade to pair with the FOCS, but so far the 7 O'Clock is a winner. I've had some not-so-pleasant shaves using other blades, but I'm glad I stuck with the razor. I'm looking forward to exploring my options. Have a good shave today and a better one tomorrow...

Last night, I had shave #25 with blade #2 of the Polisilver Stainless Steel blades. The blade was held in place with a Fendrihan Kingston razor head on a West Coast Shaving 79BR handle.

I used Tabac (Tallow) shaving soap for the first time ever. I made too much lather and added too much water for my preference. Still, the lather was slick with decent cushion. I managed to get an almost irritation free BBS shave.

Prior to the shave, I showered with cold water and also used cold water to soak my Semogue Owners Club cherry wood handle finest badger brush. Additionally, I took the soap out of the tub and placed it upside down in my Captain's Choice Seaworthy bowl, where I poured just enough water just to reach a bit above the edge of the grooves in the bottom of the bowl. I won't be making that mistake again. The Tabac does not need to be treated like other triple milled soaps I've used in the past.

After the bloom water turned filmy with soap, I squeezed my brush dry, picked up the soap puck in one hand, and then swirled the brush across the top of the puck for a minute. I then set down my brush and dumped the bloom water from my shaving bowl into an empty yogurt cup. Next, I scooped up all the protolather still on the puck and transferred it to the shaving bowl where I began to swirl my brush while gradually adding some of the bloom water (along with more cold tap water) to make my lather. Unfortunately, I added too much water, but the Tabac just drank up all the extra water. It seems to have a huge margin of error--more than any soaps I've used previously. When my lather was good to go, I applied a little of the bloom water to my face by hand before each lather pass.

I did my usual two pass (WTG and ATG) shave and buffed my trouble areas. I managed to nick myself just the tiniest bit above my lip. Additionally, I wound up feeling the blade a little more than with previous shaves. Aside from that, the shave was smooth.

I cleaned up my shave with my usual alum block pass before washing it off and applying aftershave splash (Pinaud Clubman) and aftershave balm (Nivea Men Sensitive Soothing Post Shave Balm). I felt no real sting from the alum block, aside from where I nicked myself, and only the barest hint of a sting from the alcohol in the splash.

I'm pretty sure that once my lather is dialed in, I can get at least another 5 (if not more) shaves out of this blade. Also, why didn't anyone tell me about Tabac being such a fantastic soap before? It has excellent residual slickness (as most of the other soaps I've used also do) but making a lather with this is almost idiot proof. Heck, I knew I added way too much water but the lather was not only still usable but it was still pretty protecting! I may need to stock up on the (tallow) refill pucks! (Seriously, why did Maurer Wirtz mess with the formula to remove tallow? The tallow Tabac is pretty much bulletproof and perfect.)

All in all, I would give this shave a 97.5/100.

You know it. An OCtober event for me can not be started unless I’m starting it off right from the house of Gillette. It’s either the Single Ring or the RFB. Went with the well worn and patina adorned OG. The Gillette Single Ring. As always, mahvelous performer….

Oct 1!
Razor: R41
Blade: Personna Red(1)
Brush: Semogue Boar
Soap: B&M Seville
A/S: B&M Seville balm

I haven't used the R41 for a while so it took a couple strokes to get the angle right but after that it was butter. 3 passes for a nic free BBS. The R41 is great when I get it right but it is a cruel mistress if I don't pay attention. OCtober is off to a great start! Camping this weekend so the next shave will be on Monday. Great shaves to all!

A cold water face and head shaver. I shave 4 to 6 times a month My three pass face & head shave morphed down to an ATG Single Pass face & head. I have used Vito’s shave soap exclusively for over a year. Today is the second SV soap shave, in over a year.

A comparison review between Vito’s & SV is posted on my journal GC.68OC, GOLD GRANDE, YAQI CHROME MELLON - A JOURNEY - https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/threads/gc-68oc-gold-grande-yaqi-chrome-mellon-a-journey.585819/post-11458599

I will make the final boar and lather adjustments over the next two shaves. I’ve single used Feathers for over a year. I’ll do a couple of Bic Chrome Platinum single use blade shaves. Shaves three and four of the month. Feather vs Bic two Platinum’s duke it out. A review and comparison to follow.

After a long shower. I use SV Shea Butter pre shave for face and head skin. Post shave Osma Alum, Thatcher’s Witch Hazel, Hylaronic Acid, a balm, and Lucky Tiger Shave Tonic.

Todays Shave
SV instructs blooming and dumping bloom water onto your dampened boar hair brush. Build lather. I chucked the bloom water last week. Lather was heavier than my preference. Used all the bloom water this week. The luxurious, creamy, dense lather was a tad lighter than preferred. 1/3 of the soup next week should be my happy spot.
Halfway through the face shave there was little doubt my minimalist selections have jelled and will serve and challenge future shaves. The second shave in a year continuing to add a few firsts. Build lather once, no adjustments required, after initial face lathered no lather touch ups. Superb excellent glide and a noticeable lower number in clean up and buffing strokes. Critical in accomplishing and maintaining a single pass shave. Ample lather in container and brush ready without adjusting or adding for a full head shave. Zero lather dry out from brush load to last stroke on the head shave. Another pass available for sure or maybe more on a single non adjusted load. The seven day growth was easily and comfortably shaved. The speed of lathering is increased by not having to do extra adjustments and touch ups. Superior glide also elevates speed in strokes. Last weeks lather was heavier and slower and fewer subtitles were not noticed or appreciated. Today’s shave was quicker, closer, and a higher level of comfort.

Not done with my firsts yet.

I had posted the same post shave elixirs I’ve been using in every shave for over a year. Post shave skin usually felt undernourished and all the applications brought a measure of relief and comfort. Today I hardly used any alum on my face and skipped the witch hazel and Lucky Tiger. H A and balm were used. I only used H A and balm on my head. In the spirit of minimalism less is more. Feeling kinda saucy I couldn’t hold myself back from a liberal face and head dosing of after shave splash. Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica.

A great start to my third year with an excellent memorable shave.

Missed opening day of the event but just had my first shave for OCtober:
Otto Roth New LC
Gillette silver blue
Simpson Trafalgar T2
Ach. Brito mogno
Pinaud clubman AS
Shaved without showering and didn’t get the prep I’m used to and ended up with a few nicks that I don’t normally get when shaving after a shower

It says it's a 26mm knot compared to the Evo's 28mm knot, but it seems to have a slightly shorter loft? I don't know, the knot size seems bigger than the Evo, but the stats say no.
My Trafalgar T2 knot diameter specification is 24mm. It measures at 26mm as it exits the handle. Maybe if we dissect our brushes we can find the part of the knot Alexander Simpson measured for his stats.

The T2 is a big brush by my standards. Maybe I should have a fake tiny one.
