O4 Gold Super Adjustable Valuation

I have Two O4 Super Adjustables that I'm going to be selling at some point in the next few weeks. One is near mint and will be going on eBay. The other is rated as good, only because there is some plating loss on the underside. I'm going to put this one up on the BST, but want to charge a fair price. It is the razor on the right in the first picture; mot of the scratches are not visible to the unaided eye.

Any thoughts to what would be considered a fair asking price? Thanks in advance.

Dex, when I first joined B&B, I bought a Super Adjustable like yours - but its date code is A3 - that was represented as being NOS. It came in a vacuum formed plastic case. A number of these razors were sold for $45 each, plus a modest shipping charge, and I don't recall anyone questioning the price.

It is pretty hard to place a solid market value on these since they appear so seldom. I would venture to say that you will see 100 of the standard nickel versions to every gold plated version. The standard nickels have fluctuated between $28-$45 over the past year in excellent to near mint condition with no case. Very good condition ones have ranged around $25-$30. I would say that a gold version would be worth around a third more that the nickel, but as we all know it can vary tremendously. Therefore, I would say $37-$50 in excellent to near mint and $33-$40 in very good condition.

Now, I am stating my opinion on market values as I perceive them based upon constant monitoring of eBay, B&B and other sources. That does not, of course, mean that you as a seller or a buyer would be comfortable with those ranges, either high or low.

I hope this helped a little.

I think that Guido (not surprisingly) is spot on. These are a bit more rare than the typical nickel ones. Also, the quality of the gold plating is not super high. I have one in near mint condition and one with a modest bit of wear. Compared to the gold plating on a 40's Aristocrat, these are much thinner and will come off easily, so careful how you clean them up!!

And I agree with Guido's price estimates, too!

Thanks guys, your estimates sound spot on. I have been following prices on eBay and I'm amazed that someone has the nerve to ask over $100 for a NOS version.

I'm aware of how thin the plating is on these, which is why I think the second one has a bit of plate loss on the bottom, but the top is for the most part immaculate. They are as clean as I want them now, perhaps some mild wax, but certainly no metal polish.

I had heard that these were made O3–O4 only, but I ran across a guy selling a P1, so I guess they did make them into the first quarter of 1970.

Thanks again!

I lucked out on one of those at an antique mall for $4. The cashier was shocked when I told her I was going to shave with it. The razor was covered in dust and soap scum and cleaned up beautfully. I'm not really into gold but those are sharp looking razors.

I came across the first one on eBay, it was being auctioned off along with some NOS blades. I wanted the blades, but the picture was pretty crummy, I could just barely make out the blades and the razor looked like a Krona. So the box arrives and wow! A Super Adjustable.

The buyer then puts up the exact same auction again . . . I had to PM him to make sure . . . but yes, he has a second set of blades and a second Super (in even better condition). Same crummy picture . . I think there were only two bidders on the second auction.
