What's new

O-Rings and 2006 B&B LE

a perhaps valid negative about the 2006 B&B Limited Edition is its floppinesss... I have a finest and a finest in silver tip (OK, so I'm trying to be a B&B brush completist!) - both of which are a little too floppy for me.

I've read with great interest and curiosity the recent threads on O-ring brush mods... on the way home from work last night at stopped at the local True Value & picked up few rubber o-rings.

I worked a couple onto the finest silver tip '06 B&B - the modification gave me a brand new brush! The tips are still the softest and gentlest of any brush I have - but it now has some backbone! I used Colgate's Barber soap this morning, lathered in my big scuttle - great lather - and... the brush worked great!

Next, I'll stretch two onto a vintage Coate's restoration in which I set the loft too high (a beautiful butterscotch handle, TGN's best knot... too damn high. Shoot.) - we'll try that one tomorrow. And then... the other '06 LE... and then... my SMF III!

Before you dump that too-floppy brush - you might want to give the O-Ring Mod a try!

The O-Rings transformed my Shavemac 177. I see you have 2 on, try a third.

ha! will do - I have a bunch of brushes to try this on...

was there consensus on taking 'em off to dry out the knot? this is not an easy thing to do with the heft of these handles....

I left them on a do it yourself brush restore, but took them off the 177. Now I'm leaving them on the 177 as well as see how it goes. If you would like to take them off, remove them before rinsing your brush out, they slide over the soapy knot.

Another solution to that issue is to hold the brush by the base of the knot between your pointer and middle fingers and your thumb. It worked great! I loved that brush!

WOW! Can't wait to try this.

I have a brush that I desperately want to love, but it's so floppy I feel like I'm white-washing a fence when I lather up...and I ain't no Tom Sawyer...or Becky Thatcher for that matter.

Fantastic idea, Jon!

Can we see another shot of the brush with a little bit more perspective?

as much as I wish it were my idea, it aint.

I will post a couple of pics after I gather more O-rings... I want to add a third to this; and there are a couple of other brushes I intend to mOd as well.

a grOup buy, eh?
