What's new

Normandy

I thought that with it being Memorial Day weekend, it might be a good time to share some photos my wife and I took on a holiday to Fance in 2008. We first went down to Bayeaux and spent a week looking around the Normandy area and then we headed up to Amiens to explore the Somme.

One thing I remember vividly about my family's stay in Europe was the old "pill box" fortifications still existing. And in Italy, folks living in them. But my class had a field day once and we visited a winery out side of the base somewhere near Catania. You could still clearly see the damage to the old vineyard structures. Of course, it was Sicily and the damage may have been more recent activity. :001_huh:

Nice pictures John.

And oh yeah, +1 for taking a 1st grade class to a winery. We got to stomp grapes! The chaperones got to taste, we didn't, but it wasn't the Sicilians stopping us!

Thanks so much for sharing these. My good friend and neighbor across the street, J.W. Rodriguez land on Normandy on D-Day. He is 89 yrs. old and a really great old guy.
