It makes money because it is very entertaining. I am a light MMA fan. I used to watch WEC and UFC often. Not a superfan, but I enjoyed keeping up with the fights. Since I no longer have cable I am out of luck. Hulu does play some UFC, but no WEC. I am odd in that I actually enjoy WEC more in some ways...whereas the hardcore MMA fans think WEC is lower quality than UFC. I think they are both good for their purpose...and both are owned by Zuffa anyway.

+1 It has definitely buried Boxing and is working on putting down the rest of professional sports (in terms of viewer ship/sales).

I've had 6 amateur fights and follow all MMA (not just the UFC).
