Newbie and New vintage Gillette

Just wanted to finally post and say hello to you all and ask a simple question. Picked up this lovely Gillette 4th quarter '56 Super Speed at a local antique store for $9.00 yesterday. It cleaned up very nice just after a boiling TSP bath. I have yet to polish it. It shaves like a dream. Best i can tell its brassing on the underside or has a goo buildup. Did I get a good deal? Any idea where I can get a set of the original instructions?

Welcome to B&B!

Yes, that was a good deal. For the instructions, I'm unsure. I think I saw a thread with a few instructions booklets scanned or it's in wiki... There's something somewhere...

The thread with the instructions is here. You'll probably find something very close to the ones that came with that razor.

$9 is a very good price for a Super Speed in that condition, with the case. You might want to (carefully) clean the head with Scrubbin' Bubbles and a soft toothbrush.

Wish the super speed I picked up had a case with it, also paid more then 9 for it. Still looks nice on my razor holder.

Welcome, and you did just fine. My 1957 looks just like yours, and I paid more than double for it, and the case is not as nice as yours, but the shave I get from it is!

Damn, where are these shops with $9 Super Speeds in that condition. I'd take a dozen. Or at least a decade's worth.

That looks like goo, not brassing. I just received my very used 58 super speed red tip today, and it had the exact same looking yellow area in about the same spot. I scrubbed it up and it didn't come off. It wasn't until I took my fingernail to it that it came off.
