New to the Haberdashery

Gentlemen:

Good afternoon. Happy Holidays. My name is Rob. I am a mid '30s husband and father of three.

I work in a profession which requires me to wear "modified business casual" on a daily basis. (I alternate into scrub attire when in the operating room.) So I am back and forth between shirt & tie with sport coat to OR Scrubs.

I have never focused much on my clothing style. My style could unfortunately be described as Middle School Substitute Teacher. I've been trying to work on things, but the process has been slow.

I've been coming to BB for shaving advice and to talk fountain pens over in the Nib. I decided to stop in and introduce myself.

I'll be reading and posting some questions.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Rob

Welcome! I've been in this forum for a while now, the information is just now starting to sink in.

Welcome Rob, great little corner of B&B here. We'll do what we can to help with that whole "Middle School Substitute Teacher" thing.

There are some interesting books out there to help increase your sense of how to dress better.

I've not dressed as well as I could have in my life (I'm a reformed slob). So a sense of enjoyment, pride, or style in clothing does not come naturally. I used these books to help me learn about clothing and style. Flusser "Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion" is one I have enjoyed. Quite good!

Esquire The Handbook of Style: A Man's Guide to Looking Good is almost as good.

Thanks! I will look into these.
