What's new

new guy ?

So I'm pretty new to all of this stuff this may sound like a strange ?.....

I read or have seen on youtube instructions for putting a soap puck in a bowl. These various places have suggested melting the puck in a microwaveable safe bowl and then pouring the melted soap puck into your bowl of choice.

So I have a puck of C&E sweet almond oil (THAT I LOVE) and I put it in the microwave for about 20 seconds. It didn't really melt, into a liquid it more bubbled up like Styrofoam or popcorn would do. It was still hard in the middle so I tried to stir it and then put it back in the microwave for an additional 20 seconds. In the end the soap is no longer really in a puck shape it's now melted to the bowl I put it in, in the microwave which is fine b/c that's the bowl I was going to use anyways....what I'm saying is, there was no pouring it out of this bowl, maybe scrapping would be a better term but I would leave precious morsels behind.

So now my soap is "formed" to my bowl but here is my issue, not really a problem but maybe someone can help....my kitchen and ESPECIALLY my microwave smell like C&E Sweet Almond Oil Soap. This isn't at all a bad thing, when we leave and come back the house smells really nice...the only thing is now when we coook/reheat things in the microwave they too smell like the soap. It's like the soap has taken over.

Is this normal? I tried to heat up some left over taco meet for lunch and it came out smelling like Sweet Almond Oil. Not a bad thing, but will this last for a while? Anyone have this happen to them or have tips?

Thanks.

Not all shaving soap will melt in the microwave. Only the glycerin melt, and pour soaps (like VDH Deluxe) will actually melt in microwave. Tallow based soaps burn, and are destroyed in the microwave, and this procedure doesn't work on triple milled soaps either.

I suspect the C and E is likely a triple milled soap.

I don't use the microwave. It you want to put a soap in another bowl, either use a double boiler to melt the soap or I prefer to use a cheese grater and grind up the soap and repack it into the new bowl.

To get the puck out of a bowl, you can put it in the freezer for a while and it should pop out rather easy.

And as for the smell. I can't help you there. Perhaps was it out with some baking soda? I have absolutely no idea if that will work but it's what I would try first. maybe even keep an open box in there for a while while it's not in use.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and +++++1 on don't try to tallow or milled soaps. You will ruin them. Only glycerin soaps!
