New Gillette handle question

Working my way through the vintage razors I've bought, I'm in the middle of cleaning and disinfecting a New Gillette. I do plan to try shaving with it at some point. Hopefully the picture below will show correctly, a bit of a novice at photobucket links. It was taken part way through cleaning.

The question is, is it normal for the handle to come apart in two pieces like this? The top piece pushes in tightly enough, but I don't know if it would have any tendency to come off during shaving.

If it's not normal, then what, just a small dab of expoxy?

This is quite common with the ball end handles of the Old Types, Goodwills and NEW's. Your thought of a dab of epoxy is dead on. That is the best solution and works great. It will then be ready to become your favorite razor. It is hard to beat a NEW.

Probably nobody will notice this follow-up, but I thought I'd finish the story. I finished cleaning and disinfecting the pieces. I noticed that there were hairline cracks, still fairly short, on both ends of the handle, which I gather is pretty common. I epoxied the loose piece into the end of the handle, and also painted the outside of the cracks with epoxy. Let it dry overnight. Hopefully the epoxy will keep the cracks from spreading. We'll see.

Shaved with it this morning, using a Feather blade. Yep, really nice shave, very close and comfortable, no lingering irritation. I really hope that handle repair lasts, because I want to keep using this razor. I got it for $12.51 shipped on eBay. If the handle does break, I'll find another one.

Cracks are fairly common...hope it works. They are great razors.

My NEW came apart in the same way. I just put it back together (no epoxy or anything) and it has stayed put very well.

If you ever need/want to replace the handle, you'd be hard pressed to find a better replacement than this.
