Just my opinion, but the double breasted coats did fall out of favor over the last 20 years or so. They have come back somewhat. The coat pictured above with the metal buttons does look a bit cartoonish for casual wear, especially with the extremely wide lapels.

I'd probably go with something a bit more understated with matching buttons:

I feel like your suggestion has equally large lapels, they're just folded at a slightly different angle.
