Need Large Humidor Recommendations

Hey all,

I'm in the market for a large humidor - between 300 and 500 capacity. It does not need to be desktop. It DOES need to have a good airtight seal for any compartment that opens. Here's the catch - I'm looking for one out-the-door for $150 or less. I don't need fancy inlays or anything, just quality construction. Any ideas?

Thompson lucky 7 can hold 250. Seven drawers. 3-500 I don't know. Better off getting 2 IMO. You have to keep it half full to keep it humidified. So if you lose the itch for cigars like I did, you will have to keep 150 stick minimum. I use to smoke 4-5 a day, now I do 3-4 a month. And had 5 humidors at one time, almost 1000 sticks, down to one humidor, maybe 100 sticks.

I'd suggest the option of a cooler, but as you probably don't want a cooler looking thing, I'd cover it in thin premium plywood and pick up a few of the cedar trays from cheaphumidors.com. Pop a hole in the side or front and stick a Hygrometer in it and seal it on with some silicone caulk.

A Havana Footlocker comes in right at $150 from CI. It only has a lid that opens so there's no issues with drawers etc.

Apart from the Coolerdor, a Wineador can also be an option. A good sized wine cooler doesn't have to be very expensive. I bought the Emerson 12 bottle wine cooler from Target on sale for $80 a couple months ago.

I was looking at that Havana Footlocker - its probably the one I'm gonna jump on. As I'm pretty new to smoking cigars, I figured somebody might have some well kept secret websites or companies, or even somewhere that sells used humidors. Thanks though, this is much better than an igloo cooler, lol.

Keeping it half full won't be a problem - I'm a big fan of large dog rocket samplers :)

This is a cool idea too, thanks.

Wineador sounds like a cool idea. If you are good with technology I personally would grab a Rasberry Pi to control two fans, as well as check humidity and alert me if it drops.. but that is me.

I did something similar but more manually. I wired up 2 200mm computer fans up to a rf remote that I on and off without opening my wineador and from pretty far away. To power it I had to drill a hole to run a power and ground to a power supply on the outside and reseal it with marine grade silicone.

I was seriously considering the wine cooler for a minute until i read a bunch of reviews on their power supplies and refrigeration breaking randomly. After the "cool" factor wore off, I jumped on the havana footlocker. Not much there to break.

IGLOOdor. No question
Low to Zero maintenance and very affordable.

My 124Qt has served very well for over 15 years. Just make sure to keep it in the middle of your house and open it 1x a week to get some new air in there.
Spanish cedar and/or cigar boxes inside are a bonus!

No question that an igloo cooler converted into a humidor would fit the bill. But when I compare the two, that havana footlocker looks much nicer sitting in the middle of my living room

Depends on your abode  Mine would have a cooler perfectly fine in it, but I am a student
Agreed though the footlocker is much nicer. Will be interested in hearing how well it works for you.
