What's new

Need another go-to razor

I live part of my week at home and the other part at my fiance's house. I have a 34C at home....I get a great shave out of this razor...very satisfied.
I get an okay shave out of the 1904 I have at her house, but I'm not in love with it. I've tried various blades...last night, I loaded
an Astra and had the best yet, but it was still not as good as 34C.

Since, I'm still new at all this, I would like to explore more options. But, it seems like the more I read, the more confused I get.

I've been looking at Gillette products. Before I get any deeper into my search.......

Can anyone recommend a Gillette razor that would be comparable to the 34C...could even be a bump up(in aggressiveness).

Red Tip super speed would be good, as Buzz_Kill mentioned. Another good option would be Gillette NEW, which would be a tad more aggressive than both of those.

I agree strongly with the 2 previous suggestions. In fact, I'm shaving with a 1956 Gillette Red Tip this week loaded with a Shark blade. Outstanding shaves from an attractive razor. I initially tried the Red Tip with an aggressive Feather blade and it was hostile to my face. But the Red Tip and the Shark and I get along fine. BTW the official name of the Gillette "Red Tip" is the "Gillette Heavy." It is designed to specialize in whacking down heavy whiskers.

A progress would allow for a wider gap, and more aggressive shave, or if u need a toned down razor, maybe after a bad shave the previous day, u have that option as well.

Awesome......Thank you for the suggestions....I was not looking at any of these. How much does the year play in performance....aside from it being older and potentially in worse physical shape?

^I have looked at the Slim and Fatboy. I was reading a bit about the difference between fixed and adjustable models.....I'm undecided really.

My go to razors are a Hoffritz slant which I graduated to from a long handled black beauty. The long handle has the slim and fat boy beat IMHO.
Try a long handled razor. Regards, Chiefmate

Pop in a good blade and turn the dial. If it gets too aggressive, you know what to do. I love my gillette adjustables.

The long handle super is next on my list. I have a short and really enjoy it, but I do want to try the long, but not the one with the plastic base plate. I want the weight as well.

The Gillette Red Tip is very agressive and nice w/Astra,s. You can,t go wrong with adjustable SS Slim and Astra blades.

I'm probably going to end up getting more than one that's been mentioned here...eventually, of course.

what's wrong with another 34c?

You say you like it so why switch just because you are standing in front of a different mirror :001_smile

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best solution

^I thought about that. I think I'm just wanting to experience a vintage DE. Definitely nothing wrong with another 34C. I used mine tonight. Markedly better/easier shave than I had last night.

If you just want a vintage, you can't go wrong with any Gillette. They are all well made and all of them will give you an acceptable shave and not bit you at all.
