GIVEAWAY! Let the PIFs continue! Merkur 37C slant razor

The Lather Maestro
Well, after a bout of new purchases, I'm trying to thin the heard in my shave den of things that don't get used, one of which is the Merkur 37C slant razor.

It's not a bad shaver, it is not more aggressive or more difficult to use than the 34C (except for straightening off sideburns, I sometime look a little like Spock). I just never use it. Frankly I can't tell the difference between the shave with a 34C or 37C, and I'm not alone. Some significant percentage of folks who use a slant swear by them, others wonder what all the hullabaloo is about. But to me, it's just clutter, so hopefully someone will adopt it and give it a good home.

If you've not tried a slant and want to see which camp you fall into, or if you have another slant and want to try this classic, hop on IN! This is open to international shavers, I hate to limit it, but if your shipping is way more than U.S. I may ask you to venmo or PayPal me shipping minus $9 (what I'd pay for a small one-rate box in the U.S.). But you're welcome to participate. I'll probably do the wheel of names next Saturday, August 31.

Good luck!

Cheers,

Never tried a slant, and I enjoy the shave with my 34C. I'm curious if I'll be able to tell a difference.

I'm in!

Thanks for the opportunity!

If I'm fortunate enough to win, I pledge to PIF my 34C.

Good luck to all!

Hahaha. No need to do that. Whenever I win something, I PIF something but need not be the same thing. Of course, if the slant wows you, by all means PIF the 34C, I'd be curious if you could tell the difference. I can't.

My initial thought was, "Gee, way cool! I'll get to try another slant to see I'd change my mind." Then reality and memory set it in. I really didn't jibe with the PAA twisted slant I had and PIF'd it.

So, respectfully NOT in.

That said, tis is a most generous PIF.

Thank you for making this community such a pleasure to be part of.

Lol,always wanted to give 37c a try, since I have a FOCS and really liked it, but I still don't know what the hullabaloo is all about 🤣I'm in(i'm from europe) . Thank you for your generosity, you have quite the PIF collection there I would say. Given a lot of stuff out on the people here

@bushisho I'm a little odd for this forum in that I can't get comfortable if there is too much stuff in my shave den. I don't know how to describe it, I guess I'm like the donkey who starved to death between two bales of hay because he didn't know which one to take a bite out of first.

So when I won a PIF of S.V. Felce Aromatica, I decided to PIF my Stirling Sharp Dressed Man and some juice. I acquired a Henson AL13++ and a Yaqi Ghost Ti 70 so decided to PIF a Schick Krona and this slant. If I don't use it, I consider most of what is in my den clutter. I'll likely be giving away a couple more razors soon. I have birthday razor, a Fatboy in good shape and a couple of others that I will keep, but I'll want to unload anything else at some point.

I'm starting to move upscale in my lather products a bit, I blame @Marco  but truth be told, I'm delighted. He's steered me toward some inexpensive classics like Cella, Haslinger, and Proraso Red cream, but also got me hooked on S.V. for which I am grateful. At my age I should be indulging in nicer products, it's not like that will make me miss the mortgage payment. And @Dtownvino has started to carry some of Marco's enabler burden lately, too, setting me up with about a dozen wonderful soap samples.

But my OCD makes me keep my collection in check. At the moment I think what will have permanent places in my den are as follows:

  • Tallow Tabac (still have 3 pucks, thank heaven!), I like to follow it with The Veg
  • Cella original and their A/S splash which is quite nice, everyone should try it
  • LaVanda cream and A/S splash
  • Stirling Varen soap, followed up with Aramis (classic fougere A/S from the 1970s pairs beautifully!)
  • Saponificio Veresino Felce Aromatica and A/S
  • Ethos Dragonsbeard soap and A/S and maybe the EDP
  • TOBS Peppermint cream and Aqua Velva ice blue or Bootlegger's Green Freeze for summer
  • Proraso red cream and preshave cream for fall and winter

After shaves I have in addition to the above are Pinaud Clubman, Floid the Original, AV Ice Blue, The Veg, a couple of Shulton NOS Old Spice, PAA Doppelganger Grey plus soap, but likely won't reload those when gone, Aramis A/S and EDT, and Bootleggers El Dorado (really growing on me!).

But for some odd reason, I get very uncomfortable if my collection grows too much. Sounds weird to guys with 30 soaps and 25 razors, I guess, but that's me! I'll be doing some more PIFs soon. The stuff above, is pretty much assured a permanent place in my den, but if I replace one of them I'll likely PIF something like I did the Stirling SDM when I got he S.V. I'm odd that way.

Now, some TFS John. I just got the Mastro Michè Revisited Rive Gauche Shaving Stick made by TFS. It's SUPERB.

P.S. Both TFS and SV were founded in 1945. A coincidence? Maybe, but these are true Italian marvels covered with glory and fame.

Oh boy. Here we go again!

I forgot to include La Toja sticks as having a permanent place in my den. I think I have a good mixture of economical products and higher end stuff, but all of which just plain WORKS, and I attribute that to you, my friend! Your thoughtful descriptions and commentaries, and your wonderful company and product histories have made me a more refined shaver, I believe, @Marco .

Oh boy,

"Head notes of blackcurrant, plum, pineapple, and green citrus. Heart notes of black sandalwood, black orchid, and wood. Bottom notes of cashmere, moss, cedar wood, and tonka bean."

I might have to try this now. :mad2:

TFS has greatly improved its formulas in the last months. And these soaps are either inexpensive or dirty cheap! The Mastro Michè sticks do cost €4,90 each here, while the TFS red tub is about €2,50, just like Proraso. And there's also the kilo brick at about €10,00. TFS is the Italian dragon and now this dragon is spitting fire again! :thumbup1:
