Neck problems,,,again

Been shaving DE for about 3 weeks now and am starting to run into some trouble. About mid way through my work day my neck starts burn, and become sensitive. This is many hours after I have shaved. I would think if it were a reactions to a product I were using it would be a quicker affect. Here is my current routine:
Hot shower, wet face, apply pre-shave oil (homemade EVOO&Castor), Arko stick whipped up in a cup, 3 pass shave, cold water, witch hazel via cotton ball, balm (Gillette Sensitive skin gel), aftershave.

Possible it has nothing to do with my shave? But I don’t have this problem when I don’t shave.

It could be razor burn. Are you shaving against the grain on your neck (which may be a different direction than on your face)? If so, you may want to skip that and do only cross-grain passes there. At a minimum, make sure you are using a very light hand on your neck.

Also, the fact that the burn takes a few hours to appear does not mean it isn't some sort of reaction to the products you are using. I would start by skipping the balm or the pre-shave oil to see if that helps. The Arko and witch hazel seem less likely irritants, but I suppose you never know.

The bottom line is, as I am sure you know, your neck shouldn't be burning after you shave, so something needs to change.

My 3 pass normaly is N-S, ear-nose, S-N. So I could skip the last pass and see if it helps. I did take the preshave oil out once last week, but my face was so dry when I was shaving it was worse. I will also drop the balm and aftershave for a few days to see if it helps. Thanks Bladegap

Rattbones, before dropping a pass, check the direction of growth on your neck. You may find that you want to skip the ear-nose direction on your neck, as that may be against the grain there. In that case, you can simply skip that pass on the neck, but keep all three passes for the face and chin line.

It might be the tightness of your shirts. Unless they are fitted properly, it could be irritation due to the shirts rubbing up against your hair that's growing back in on your neck.

Just a follow-up, I thought I would change only 1 thing at a time and check results as I go. It very well could be a combination of things. When I got home yesterday I checked the balm I had been using and it seemed high in alcohol content. So, I went to the drugstore and got some Neutrogena Post Shave Lotion. It seem to have the lowest Alcohol content of what was available.

I went through my shaving ritual only using the new balm, and leaving off the aftershave. No discomfort so far. I will continue to experiment and update.
