neck burn...from my collar

Any tips to avoid the razor burn-like rash on my collar line?

I just welcomed the students to school and I guess my new shaving habits plus going back to wearing a tie everyday seem to be causing problems in that area.

And for the record my neck size is 16 for a close fit, 16.5 for a more relaxed fit...and of course the problem only seems to happen when wearing the 16.

too bad I can't upgrade my shirt collection...

Try using some Talc to keep the neck line dry and easy on the skin, I find that talc keeps my neck-collar junction smooth and comfortable. It could be due to the shaving- were you getting the irritation when you were not wearing a tie regularly?

i worked corporate and gained and lost weight. I use J&J baby powder on the collar, specially during the summer. i wash my shirts and just OD on fabric softener

Also, you could try shaving at night until the burn goes away. That way any new irritation would have a chance to calm down overnight.

ha! no starch.

I don't get the irritation unless I wear a buttoned collar and tie. I shave the same and get no burn when I wear tshirts, open collars, etc.

How are you guys applying powder on your neck without looking like you're a sloppy cocaine addict? I've always wondered...

I'm also considering coconut oil on the neck/collar area.

thanks for responding!

I used to have the same problem. Two things helped. First, get a half inch larger shirt in the neck. second, wait an hour or so before putting on your tie. This will give your neck a chance to recover from shaving.

I usually just put some pinaud talc on my hands and then apply it to my neck, and then put on my shirt- no need to cover myself in it. Generally a sloppy cocaine addict-free appearance results.

Like the man said ... half an inch of shirt can make all the difference.

Now half as wise
The only real solution IMO is a 16.5 collar. The talc will help as will waiting a while before putting on the tie. I wear a shirt/tie every day, often for 12 -14 hours. I use a Marvy talc brush . About $5 IIRC.

IMO, the main reason so many eschew ties and find them so uncomfortable is that they are trying to wear a collar that is too small. I did this for years until I finally figured it out!
