What's new

nagura consistency

I’m stumped
I now have 2 sets of nagaura stones Botan, Tenjou & Mejiro.
my first mejiro is very slow to raise a slurry yet my just aquired mejiro raises a slurry with no effort.
I have not played with them enough to see what differrence is if any to the edge but it will be fun trying to spot any differnce.

Is this common for nagauras to be poles apart in raising a slurry?

What Gamma said, there are cases where Mejiro and Tenyjou are almost interchangeable. The fun is in the experimentation.
yes it's play time for sure.
so far it looks like it is slow to raise a slurry but cuts a bit quicker.
shame I don't have a high magnification microscope to see the differnce in the edge.

I have a Tenjou which takes FOREVER to raise a slurry but still fits in nicely before a Meijiro that raises a slurry almost like it is made of chalk. It is fun figuring out which one does what..

I usually soak the Nagura - esp when they're a bit hard and slow at raising a slurry.
Seems to help get things going faster/easier.

As with all Jnats, there is variations from stone to stone. Some cut faster some slower.
