Mystic Waters Love: The Complete Soap

I have been working through a whole puck of Mystic WatersIrish Traveler, and I must say I understand how shaving can become luxurious,as Mystic Waters is like shaving heaven for me. I have been DE shaving for almost a year May 2012 starting off with Proraso cream, Col Conk soap, GFT cream, AOS cream, and Cella. But this Mystic Waters takes the cake.
I thought I loved the samples, but the puck has been even better because of the versatility. I used it as my pre-shave soap using a thin and quick layer for washing my face in the shower or with a hot towel. The shave is slick, thicky, smells wonderful, my wife loves the smell of thebathroom when I shave (Hmm, maybe I should invest in some Creed GIT). I feel like I am shaving with good smelling soft serve ice cream!
I even use it the way I used to use Proraso Pre/Post ShaveCream quite by accident. I was shaving and my two boys were playing in the bathroom at 4 and 1, and I was talking to them and went too hard ATG on my neck. I felt the burn but took the pasty foam off the puck after loading and applied itto the burn and the rest of my neck. It totally killed the burn for me, so now I really know the high quality of ingredients used in Mystic Waters.
MW is the complete soap: a pre-shave, a shave soap, & apost shave cream. Save your money and spend it at Mystic4Men.com.
Here’s to hoping my wife gets me the Bergamot, Cedarwood, and Juniper puck for Father’s Day!! :001_tt1:

Never used it for anything but shaving, but it is, indeed, a very nice soap.

Just ordered a few more samples today. Gotta figure out what my next full puck scent is going to be.

Jerry, great story. As anyone here who reads my blathering knows, I am a big fan of Mystic Water. Mystic Water really is about the best shave soap on the planet. At least for me. I love it when a relative newbie hits upon a product that I know is stellar and comes to his own conclusions about its performance. Welcome to the Mystic Water fan club.

Cheers, Todd

I got a six pack of Mystic Water soap samples about 6 months ago. They all smelled great- my favorite was the Cedar Sage. But they are too unpredictable in my hands. I get good lather only 25% of the time; the rest of the time it's airy. I've tried the Marco method, the videos on the website, using badger vs boar, not using a scuttle, bowl vs face lathering... you name it, I've tried it. I wanted to love MW, but at some point I had to say that they weren't for me.

i hear that a lot and that is what keeps me from trying their soap. I never have to try to get a good lather from Tabac. YMMV

I hear this from some people and I just don't get it. I can't make it make sense, because it is so diametrically opposed to my own experience with these soaps.

i have to agree, along with Mike's, it is the best soap i have tried. Wait until you try the Bay Rum and Sandalwood! Incredible.

I can tell you i'm also in this camp that it's too unpredictable. Maybe it's my water, I don't know, I have no problem what so ever with Wool Fat which seems water dependent. I've been through well over 60 different soaps & creams so I think I have an idea how to make lather with most types of product. I got good stable lather from MW about 20% of the time........ Just not worth the effort for me. MW has great slickness even with poor lather and great skin care, but so does Mike's and I get good lather with it 100% of the time.

I only use it for shaving, but always leave a layer on my face after my last pass. I clean up my brush, drain sink, and the rinse off.

great shave and great post shave feel. I almost gave up on it when I first had it, but stuck with it and its now one of my favourite and a no brainier for me to lather. I always face lather it and always get great shaves from it.

The Begamont soap is one i have not used yet, but I did buy it pre-sabbatical and will hopefully get to it in summer....it smells great, but Green Fairy is still my favourite MW scent.

Bruce, I completely understand. The Lily of the Valley was a no brainer for me. It just 'hit' from the first lathering. Luscious, thick lather that had the best density and stability I had ever seen. Then I tried the Wild Lavender. Hmm, a bit strange. I was not getting the super dense lather like the other one. I managed along for awhile and realised that due to differing scent components(Wild Lavender is essential oil. LofV is fragrance oil) it likely was causing some issues. About a week ago I got what I thought was a bad lather from the WL. What's this? Me, getting a bad MW lather? So I took it back to the cake and worked it over the beard again. And kept messing about a bit for a few minutes. Then it simply decided to 'fill out' so to speak and there was that same great, face pampering lather I was used to.

So I reexamined what I had done. Load slightly wet brush for nearly a full minute; check. Add some water to the brush and go back to the top of the cake lightly for another half minute; check. Apply to beard and start face lathering; check. This is where the lather came apart. Then I remembered. On the second attempt I really had not loaded more product but more like mashed what I had around a bit longer. Well, well, well. So the next time I used it I followed the normal routine and after starting the face lather and working it good for about two minutes I realised it was not coming together like the LotV. So I just kept working it good for another two minutes and then it came together all at once. It sounds very tedious but total time was under five minutes total. You chaps who have lather breakage, just load it good and don't overlook the small but significant step of working the lather for a good half minute on the cake with some added water after the initial loading. You are not really loading a lot more product but working the water into the product. Then face lather like a banshee for two to four minutes and it will come together. I am not talking about scrubbing your face raw, just good aggressive lathering. Bowl lathering will likely reach critical mass in less time. These artisan soaps are really the future lads and once you have them sorted they simply stand at the top of the heap with the best brands available. I hope this helps.

Cheers, Todd

With Mystic Waters, it is usually not the water. Because of the high quality of ingredients, a new sample or puck can dry over. If you mash the sample in a bowl or remove the top of the puck, it produces gobs and gobs of lather. I had problems with some samples and my Parker silvertip. I thought it was the problem because of all the great lathers I had with my other brushes. Michelle, the owner of MW, posted this solution, and never had a problem sense. And load for a minute or so, you will not be sorry.

You are missing out on a fantastic affordable soap by not seeking the wisdom of this forum and of the artisan herself.

I hope to try MW in the near future to compare it to Mike's. I still haven't gotten Mike's to work but today I'm going to try distilled water with the Marco method. I want to see if MW works better because they seem to be identical in scents.

Thanks for the information. I just ordered a few samples from their site. I'm fairly new to DE shaving and started out with Col. Conk's Bay Rum but i haven't had a great experience with it. I'm excited to try this stuff out.

I just picked up a puck of Sardinian honey and Adirondack Jack this morning. The honey scent when lathered is otherworldly. Here's a pic of the Adirondack Jack scent lathered with my wee Omega Boar. This is serious stuff. Can't wait to use it tomorrow

I can honestly say that Mystic Water shave soap is some of the easiest lathering soap in my den. Always more lather than I can use, and of excellent quality, and the way my face feels when I done shaving easily beats any other soap or cream I have.

I first tried it in a scuttle and it was a complete airy, bubbly, disaster. I then went to face lathering it and it is right up there with the best. I load for about 45 seconds. I use less water than I would with QCS. Love the Irish Traveller smell too.
