What's new

My recent foray into artisan soaps

So after several months of reading here I decided to take the leap and see what all the fuss was about. It has been a fun experiment. I have been breaking in a semogue owners club boar which I love. So with proper weapon in hand I tackled. Mystic waters, mikes and prairie creations faux Williams

all three provided great results. Mystic was fussy at first then again so am I! Great product. Love the shave i get. Can I lather it perfectly? Nope. But I get great shaves and after all that is the point.
Mikes. What can I say... It's great stuff. Do wish he could ship faster but that doesn't effect my shave! I just know to keep well supplied.

The big surprise for me was prairie creations. I think she deserves another look particularly her faux Williams. It's a well made soap with a good take on old Williams. It was the easiest to lather of the three and my razor glided over a very course and thick one day growth. Rinsed clean Face felt great. As it uses coconut oil I did notice a slightly drier feel than with the other two but nothing worrisome. And my post shave takes care of that anyway. ( used clubman to keep the vintage theme going)
customer service was great. Shipping was reasonable and fast. Ordered late Sunday night and was waiting for me Thursday.

Next up is mama bear vetivert.... :w00t:

Ive tried QCS. Didnt work for me sadly. Love the rose they have. Any others I should try??

Those three that you've mentioned are really good. And there are many more artisan soaps that are great, and they make up about 90% of my collection. I'm surprised that QCS didn't work for you. Did you get the cream or the soap?

Take a look at Mundus soaps on Etsy, I get an exceptional lather from them. Jabonman soaps are great, as well. I also love Malaspina soap factory, too.

Did you get the QCS Rose Otto soap?

I find it to be a lather monster with an incredible scent

Wow. I didn't know Sue has a Grizzly Bear temper. I would like to also mention Honeybee (the other Sue) who makes my favorite Bay Rum Soap. Her samples are a full ounce for around $2, give a great shave, and won't give you the Bear Burn.

For what it's worth, I've tried ten or more Mama Bear shaving soap varieties and never had a problem with any of them. No burn, just a good shaving lather.
Malaise, my experiences with Sue have been the opposite of what was described. She's always been sweet to me.

I have completely converted to artisan soaps. Well I still have about 5 years of commercial stuff but still. Anyways there are so many awesome options out there. I actually get good results with the glycerine soaps and the scents really are amazing and numerous. However I can easily stick to Mikes or Pannacrema for as long as they keep producing soaps. Yes Prairie creation, MW, QCS, are all great as I havent tried all of them but Panna and Mikes are just amazing for me. So many awesome options out there. Of course I still prefer my high emollient creams(The Body Shop-old formula and Bio Palmyra) but thats another thread:)

This is a great thread. Prarie Creations, Mystic Waters, Jabonman, QED, Mikes, Honeybee, Mundus (Etsy) & Mama Bears are all great soaps for different reasons. Scents are so personal, but the efficacy of these soaps are so great for the money. I have all of these and bunch of the brand name soaps. Like so many of them, but it's ez to see how someone could be completely satisfied with the Artisan offerings only.
