What's new

My obsession with restoring razors is becoming pretty transparent (2nd restore attemp

So it's not perfect but I still like it and besides its a gold dollar so this razor cost me like 10 dollars when u include materials (not including power tools... That a whole other bank account)

Still some microscratches inside and outside and the middle bows inward a little because of the scale shape and flexibility of materials... But the blade centers!

May need to grind off more of the shoulder because it hits the scales and may cause wear in the future...

The blade: gold dollar 66, ground the shoulder quite a bit and French ground (I think that's what you call the toe end of the spine) the spine. Also ground the tang to a point

Still learning as I had two projects going at the same time and finished them back to back (first one I posted yesterday: ruby red spikuson)... Still have a lot to learn and a lot of mistakes to be made... I think I need to focus more on wedge geometry!

Very cool. Where did you find the material for the scales?

It's light green acrylic form an eBay seller that has pretty good prices for large sheets... I buy the 1/8"x6"x12" from him the seller name is zlazr based out of Houston (where I live)

Here's the actual link to the BIN listing

About 5.50 dollars a sheet that can make scales for 6 razors... So four sheets is 24 razors worth!! I just told what colors I wanted for the sheets and he sends the quick! They also have paper on both sides so I just draw my design right on the paper and cut it out... Easy peasy

I think this is my last translucent one I'll do for a while... It's a pain to get both inside and outside of the scales micro scratch free... On non translucent material it's not as obvious..

That looks great, especially for a 2nd attempt. Maybe I will have to try something like this in the future.

Well honestly I've been drawing it out for about two weeks and planning ... Still didn't turn out how I thought it would in my minds eye... Lesson learned measure tang hole to spine and account for that distance so the blade sits perfectly parallel to the ground... Amazingly after all that planning it only took 2-3 hrs to complete
